The wife of the legendary Israeli Foreign Minister, Abba Eban, has died at the age of 90.

Suzy Eban, who was born in Egypt to Palestinian-Jewish parents and studied at Cairo’s American University, met her husband when he was stationed in Alexandria as a British army officer during the Second World War. The couple, who settled in Israel, had two children. She later founded the Israel Cancer Association. Her sister, Aura Herzog, married Chaim Herzog, Israel's sixth president.

Aubrey Eban, as he was originally known, became one of the most influential political figures in the early years of Israel and was credited with coming up with the phrase "the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss opportunity".

Two years ago Suzy Eban's memoirs of life as a political wife were published, in which she recounted her husband’s time as Foreign Minister and Israel’s first ambassador to the United Nations.

She will be buried at the Kfar Shmaryahu cemetery, next to her husband, who died in 2002.
