Shimon Peres wants to be your Facebook friend

articlemain

Shimon Peres is to join Facebook.

The Israeli president has revealed plans to unveil his page today, ahead of an official launch at the social networking site's California headquarters next month.

Efrat Duvdevani, director general of Mr Peres' residence, said the Facebook page was "an extremely important move to strengthening the ties between the president and the broad public throughout the globe".

"It will form a platform to promote President Peres' vision of peace while offering positive exposure for the state of Israel."

According to Ynet, when Mr Peres visits the Facebook offices a video will premiere on his page asking users to add him as a friend.

The clip, made by Israeli musical comic Noy Alooshe, is called "Be my friends for peace". Last year Mr Alooshe was responsible for a viral hit setting the words of former Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi to music.
