Neil Sedaka has promised he will serenade his Israeli fans in Hebrew when he performs in Tel Aviv next month.

The American Jewish singer-songwriter told The Jerusalem Post that he had already recorded some of hits in Hebrew.

The 71–year-old said: “I’m going to attempt to sing two songs in Hebrew – Oh, Carole and You Mean Everything To Me.”

He said he was looking forward to the concert in October – his first appearance in Israel since a 1964 show at a kibbutz near Eilat.

“It’s a lovely country, and I can’t wait to return.”

Mr Sedaka, whose parents came to America from Turkey and Eastern Europe, spent his childhood listening to Yiddish music.

He said: “I can’t speak Yiddish, but I can sing it very well if it’s written phonetically for me.
