Kerry flies in for Gaza peace talks

articlemain

US Secretary of State John Kerry has flown to Cairo in a bid to further ceasefire talks between the Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

Last night, the UN Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire in light of the rising death toll and escalation of violence.

Yesterday, thirteen Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed in Gaza. In total, 18 IDF soldiers, two Israeli civilians and more than 425 people in Gaza have been killed since Operation Protective Edge began this month.

Hamas representatives claimed that an IDF soldier had been captured, sparking celebratory gunfire shots across Gaza City.

The claim was later denied by Israeli authorities.

Israel’s UN Ambassador Ron Prosor said: "There's no kidnapped Israeli soldier and those rumours are untrue.”
