Israeli leaders have hit out against a reported deal between the United States and Iran.

US Foreign Secretary John Kerry is meeting his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Geneva. Sources have suggested that the US will offer sanctions relief in exchange for “verifiable measures” on Iran’s uranium enrichment programme.

But Mr Kerry dismissed the rumours this afternoon. He stressed that no agreement had been reached between the US and the Islamic republic.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the reported agreement as a “bad deal”.

He said: “I understand the Iranians are walking around very satisfied in Geneva. They wanted relief of sanctions – they got that.

“This is a very bad deal and Israel utterly rejects it. Israel is not obliged by this agreement and Israel will do everything it needs to do to defend itself and the security of its people.”
