Israeli TV show Sabri Maranan sold to the US

articlemain

Israeli TV show Sabri Maranan has been bought by the American network ABC.

This is the second TV show that the Israeli network Keshet has exported to the US. Its first export was successful TV drama Hatufim, or as we know it, Prisoners of War. Its American version, Homeland, is now showing its second series in the UK.

The US production will be called “Tribes” and will be written by Greg Malins, who has previously worked on iconic American comedies such as Friends and How I Met Your Mother.

Sabri Maranan tells the story of a typical Jewish family who meet every week for a traditional Shabbat dinner. The title of the programme refers to a blessing over wine.

The main characters are a young married couple who spend one weekend with the husband’s family and the next with the wife’s relatives.

The programme has finished its first season in Israel, and was the second most watched TV comedy in the country.
