Israeli teenager injured in stab attack as violence continues

articlemain

A teenager was the latest Israeli to be stabbed as violent attacks continued across the country.

The victim, thought to be aged 13, was knifed in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighbourhood of Jerusalem while riding his bike. He is said to be in a serious condition.

A second man, aged 20, was also stabbed during the incident at around 3pm local time.

It is believed they were attacked by two terrorists. Both were reportedly shot dead by security forces. One of the attackers is thought to have only been 12 years old himself.

It was the third attack in Israel on Monday, following one incident near the Lion’s Gate entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City in which a man was shot and killed after attempting to stab Israeli police.

A woman was shot and seriously injured close to the police headquarters in the city early in the afternoon.

Reports suggested two Israelis were injured when the woman tried to stab them. Magen David Adom said it was treating one person.

Some eyewitness reports suggested there had been two attackers - both women - and that both had been shot.

Meanwhile Israeli media reported that a planned visit by representatives of the Middle East Quartet has been postponed.

The delegates had been due to travel to Jerusalem and Ramallah this week to discuss peace plans.

But Ha’aretz reported that the trip would not now go ahead but could take place in a fortnight.

Israeli officials suggested they did not believe the Quartet was interested in leading talks at the current time, but other sources claimed Israel had put off the planned meetings.
