Judge calls for West Bank outpost demolition

articlemain

The president of Israel's Supreme Court has called for residents of a West Bank outpost to evacuate it within the next nine months.

Dorit Beinisch also criticised the Israeli government for not keeping to an earlier promise to force the dismantling of the Migron outpost.

In a landmark ruling, it was the first instance of the Supreme Court ordering a West Bank settlement to be dismantled.

The site is home to 50 Israeli families. It was developed on Palestinian land more than ten years ago despite the fact that the government refused permission for the construction.

The Supreme Court ruled that it was illegal and should be dismantled. Judge Beinisch also stated the situation would be easier to deal with if the government when it was first told to.
