Israeli company creates robot suitcase that follows you

An Israeli start-up has created a suitcase that can follow you around.

NUA Robotics’ invention uses Bluetooth to shadow you - or more specifically, your smartphone - wherever you go, meaning there is no need to carry or even keep an eye on your luggage.

The case can avoid obstacles, has an anti-theft alarm to ensure it doesn’t go missing, and can charge your mobile, tablet or laptop while it rolls.

It is also able to tell you its weight and location through your smartphone, meaning you will never again go to an airport without knowing your bag fits the limitations for flying.

NUA Robotics co-founder Alex Libman told news site Mashable: “Any object can be smart and robotic. We want to bring robots into everyday life.”

As Mr Libman implied, the creation is part of technology’s ongoing shift towards a connected network of objects known as the Internet of Things.

The suitcase, which was exhibited at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, is expected to be released to customers within a year. Entry to a free raffle to win one of the cases is open on the NUA Robotics website.

In the show’s overall rankings, NUA Robotics reportedly ranked 323rd, which put it within the top eight per cent of all the companies in attendance.
