The Israeli government has announced it will take in 100 child refugees from Syria.

Under the terms of the plan, which was confirmed by the Interior Ministry, the children will become eligible for permanent residence after four years.

Relatives of the children will also be eligible for residence.

The children will be housed in boarding-schools and some may even become eligible for fostering by Israeli Arab families.

Israel has provided medical treatment for over 2,000 people in makeshift field hospitals along its northern border in the Golan Heights, with some even travelling into Israel to seek medical assistance in the pioneering Ziv Medical Center and Safed Hospital.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month he wanted Israel to take in Syrians wounded in the conflict.

In a series of messages on Twitter, Mr Netanyahu said: I’ve asked @IsraelMFA (Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to seek ways to expand our medical assistance to civilian casualties of the Syrian tragedy, specifically in Aleppo”

“We’re prepared to take in wounded women and children and also non-combatant men. We’d like to bring them to Israel, to our hospitals.”

“As we’ve treated thousands of Syrian civilians. We’re looking into the ways of doing this.”
