Israel exits truce talks as Hamas breaks ceasefire

articlemain

Israel has recalled its negotiating team from Cairo after three rockets fired from the Gaza Strip struck open areas near Beersheva and Netivot.

The attack came hours before a full ceasefire agreement was due to be signed between Israel and Hamas.

The temporary five-day truce between the two sides was extended by another 24 hours last night at the request of the Egyptian mediators.

This is not the first time that militants from the Gaza Strip violated the Israeli-Hamas truce. Eight rockets were fired at Israel shortly after midnight on the day the five-day truce was agreed.

The Israeli government told the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot that it would respond by ordering the IDF to “hit terror targets in Gaza”.

The IDF said it was continuing to “secure the residents of Israel”.
