Iron Dome deployed near Eilat

articlemain

Israel has deployed its Iron Dome missile defence system by the Red Sea port of Eilat.

The IDF said that the deployment of the missile protection batteries was “in response to the changing security situation in Egypt”.

Iron Dome provides defensive cover for Eilat as jihadi groups over the border in Sinai have increased their activity in the wake of the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi.

Israel allowed the Egyptian army to deploy two infantry battalions in El-Arish and Sharm-el-Sheikh to fight militants in the area.

Two Iron Dome systems were deployed in Haifa and Safed in May following an attack on a Syrian weapons convoy, an attack which was blamed on Israel but which the IDF has denied carrying out.
