El Al London flights remain grounded

El Al is still not able to fly to or from London, meaning many Israelis will miss Yom Ha'atzmaut.
El Al is still not able to fly to or from London, meaning many Israelis will miss Yom Ha'atzmaut.

El Al has resumed flights to Zurich, Paris, Marseilles, Vienna and Budapest, but London airspace remains closed.

The company’s spokesman confirmed that some European flights would be resuming, but not those to London. Scottish airspace including Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh airports opened at 1pm today, and Newcastle Airport was also receiving flights.

El Al flies from London Luton and London Heathrow to Tel Aviv.

A spokesman for El Al’s London office said: “We can’t operate flights if there’s potential dangers across the flight path through Europe, so even if London airspace opens, there may still be problems.”

Thousands of Israelis trying to get home for Yom Ha’atzmaut celebrations are stuck in European cities.
