Three suspects are to appear in court in Israel today in connection with the vandalism of the country's national Holocaust memorial museum.

The alleged perpetrators, all from Israel's strictly Orthodox community, are understood to have admitted to being behind the damage.

Earlier this month graffiti was found at ten different places in Yad Vashem, including beside a statue that commemorates the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, the largest revolt by Jews against the Nazis.

Slogans sprayed around the Jerusalem museum, which is dedicated to victims of the Nazi regime, included "The Zionists wanted the Holocaust" and "Jews, wake up, the evil Zionist regime doesn't protect us, it jeopardises us".

Graffiti was also left at two Israeli Defence Force memorials.

Some members of Israel's strictly Orthodox community are against the existence of the state o Israel, believing that it should only be established with the arrival of the Messiah.
