JC GOAL OF THE WEEK CONTENDERS

- LLOYD BECKER (Scrabble FC B) - superbly struck volley against Hertswood Vale

- MARC RISTER (Brady Maccabi) - a great move saw Rister latch on to a great through ball and exquisitely lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box

- ZACK LEWIS (Hendon Utd) - GOAL 2 - last-minute winner against Lions saw the ball crossed in, Gav Noe brought it down at the far post, the ball found its way to Lewis at the edge of the box and he unleashed a rocket into the top corner

- ADAM ARNOLD (ML Lions) - a great counter-attack against Hendon. The ball was crossed to the far post and volleyed home with aplomb

--------------------

JC SAVE OF THE WEEK CONTENDERS

- ZAC GARBACZ (Hendon Utd) - produced an heroic goalline clearance that had to be seen to be believed

- BEN HALMER (Jewdinese) - with a heap of injury-time added on, Oakwood threw everything forward. A curling effort was fiercely struck from the corner of the box and was destined for the goal, only for the returning Halmer to remarkably tip it over the bar

JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK CONTENDERS

- JACOB EMANUEL (Hertswood Vale) - "Congratulations to Scrabble. Once again proving that anyone can beat anyone in this league. My only word of advice to anyone that comes up against them in the next few weeks ... bring a fully stocked first aid kit and a stopwatch to assist the ref!"

- SAM RANK (Redbridge JC A) - "Fairlop captain Bradley Gayer  will need to get his chequebook out as he already losing the Twitter bet – Nyman vs Gayer total goals. Sadly no cash out"

YOUR WEEKEND PREVIEW STARTS HERE:

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND TWO

OAKWOOD B 2 JEWDINESE 3

Jewdinese piled more misery on Oakwood B as they registered a third victory of the season over their Division One rivals to move into the third round of the League Cup, thanks to goals from Billy Lee, Jake Erlich and a last-minute penalty from James Ross.

Jubilant 'Nese boss Darren Lawrence told JC Sport: "This was another game where we perhaps did not perform to the best of our ability, however the fight, hunger and desire we showed cannot go unnoticed. We were determined not to exit the cup prematurely as we know we have the talent to make a real push for this trophy. When the going got tough, we really knuckled down and clawed our way back into the game. It was clear what Oakwood’s game-plan was ... They really didn’t threaten us at all other than from corners. The amount of cynical fouls by them was really poor. But we didn’t sink to their level, we focused on our game and got the job done."

Both Oakwood goals came direct from corners, via the boot of Daniel Seligman and Daniel Selwyn. Boss Simon Field told JC Sport: "It was a great battling performance in a competitive cup tie. The boys put in a much improved performance to kick off the new year, but unfortunately we didn’t get the rub of the green. A very soft penalty given against us in the last minute sadly knocked us out of the cup but much to build on as we take this attitude on for the rest of the year."

DC Prediction: Oakwood 2 Jewdinese 2 (Oakwood to win on penalties)

Rob Cohen and Marc Rister fired Brady Maccabi to their first league win of the season as they started 2019 in style against Faithfold.

Jubilant Brady boss Joel Nathan told JC Sport: "It was great to have 16 guys all chomping at the bit today to play and we made sure changes were made to keep our momentum going when a couple of the boys looked tired. We have three hard games coming up and hopefully this will give us the confidence to match on a have a great second half to the season."

OAKWOOD A 4 LOS CAMDEN A 1

Oakwood A secured their fifth league win of the season courtesy of goals from Josh Cuby, Josh Bharier, Scott Smith and Kyle Bentwood against Los Camden.

Oaks joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "Credit to Camden who kept going but I felt we really showed our class. We now have games week to week and all we can do in terms of the title race is win our games. The rest will take care of itself. We also have two cup competitions to make sure we are super sharp for so we are really looking forward to the run in this year."

MACCABI LONDON LIONS 2 HENDON UNITED SPORTS 3

A last-minute winner from Zack Lewis, his second of the game, ensured Hendon United preserved their lead at the top after coming through a five-goal thriller against Lions. Chaim Korman was Hendon's other scorer at Rowley Lane.

Adam Arnold and Michael Kenley were the scorers for Lions.

Victorious Hendon boss Jordan Sapler told JC Sport: "The game had a feel of New Year's blues, we took the lead late in the first half with a poachers finish by Zack Lewis, probably just against a run of play. Lions equalised in the second half with a great counter-attack, after we suffered with more injuries, Simon Peterman had to go off but we regained the lead only to let Lions back into the game before we suffered yet another injury with Jordan Mizrahi going off. We missed a few chances but then Zack Lewis produced a moment of magic to see us home."

Lions joint-manager Max Kyte told JC Sport: "It was another great game today which we are particular sore about given our performance today. All the boys worked hard and the game was very fair on balance. We just about had the better of Hendon in the first half, and the roles were reversed in the second. The game could have gone either way with some great chances for both sides.”

FC Team completed a quickfire league double over promotion rivals Faithfold B, with player-manager Mitch Young leading the way with a deadly double.

Further strikes from David Grossman, Dan Breger and Jules Noti completed FC Team's seventh win of the season.

Faithfold's goals came through top-scorer Benny Goldberg (2) and Leor Harel.

FC Team's Mitch Young told JC Sport: "It was a very pleasing start to the year. To come back from 1-3 down showed tremendous character and heart. We were clinical in our attacking and overall our second-half performance was excellent from all 14 players. Faithfold are a well balanced side and today was a nicely competitive game, which we all enjoyed. David Wolff came to our game and he had a fall after the game, so we wish him well and thank, in particular, Robert Bernadout and Richard Salmon for their assistance.

HERTSWOOD VALE 1 SCRABBLE FC B 3

Hertswood Vale failed to go clear at the top as they suffered their third league defeat in a shock result against Scrabble.

Lloyd Becker, Jordan Nathan and Alex Bourne were the marksmen for Scrabble, with Harry Graham pulling one back for Vale.

Becker put Scrabble ahead with an exquisite volley. The visitors then lost goalkeeper Elliot Gordon to a head injury, with Alex Bourne taking over in nets. A dominating midfield display by Hadley Silver and Jordan Nathan allowed Serge Cowan to do the dirty work and drive Hertswood open. Another strong challenge saw MGBSFL legend Bradley Lazarus leave the field of play but a second rotation in goal saw Bourne return up front to add a third to Nathan’s fine second.

Vale joint-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "It was a really disappointing morning for us. Fair play to Scrabble who used every trick in the book to frustrate us and deservedly took the three points."

Sam Circurel and Danny Sherman replied for a Fortune team entering its 50th season in Maccabi football.

Delighted Dons boss Brandon Hamme told JC Sport: "We were superb, especially in the first half. We tailed away a bit in the second half as we began to tire. A lot of positives to take forward, couldn’t have started 2019 much better. We are all determined to make 2019 a success."
