OAKWOOD A vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS
It’s the clash of the titans on Sunday – Maccabi League games simply don’t get any bigger than this.
Both Oakwood and Hendon have games in hand on the teams above them, and given their respective starts to the MGBSFL season, it’s clear they mean business.
Having watched the first 30 minutes or so of Oakwood’s match against Camden Park last weekend, I can tell you they looked like a well-oiled machine. And as defending league champions, there were no weak links.
After Toby Levy had given them the advantage with a strike of great quality, they didn’t panic when a second goal didn’t follow soon after. They remained patience and trusted their game-plan. That’s why they’re champions.
I was particularly impressed by Brad Wine who was on top of his game – knowing when the put his foot on the ball and when to play accurate first-time passes to feet. He was a joy to watch.
Full-backs Harvey Kaye and Lee Warner offer the team great width and options, while Sam Cantor and Leor Sidle never stop running.
Oakwood were not at their clinical best against Camden and that’s an area joint-manager Dan Kristall knows they can improve upon ahead of the Hendon game.
He told JC Sport: “We played Hendon a couple of weeks into the season in the County Cup and they were missing a few players. I am sure they will be back to full-strength this weekend and come into the game on good form.
“They are still one of the strongest sides in the league and I expect them to be challenging at the end.
“We know that we will need to be at our very best to get a result on Sunday.
“It isn't win or bust at this stage but when there are only 14 league games, you can't afford too many slip-ups.
“Our performances have been good in spells but we haven't hit out fluent best yet this season. With games week to week now, we expect this will help our performances. We look forward to the test.”
Hendon have won both away trips in the league and are scoring freely. The absence of Dovi Fehler is a blow but manager Greg Corin was delighted to see Yoav Kestenbaum make a goal-scoring return against the Lions.
Corin told JC Sport: Yoav came through his first game back after injury last Sunday unscathed and takes one step closer to full fitness.
“He will certainly be looking to build on his goal and fabulous assist against Lions and we’re delighted to have him back in the fold.”
Sunday will come down to who wins their individual and collective battles. I’m tipping the Oaks to edge it.
JC team news: Dave Woolman faces a late fitness test for Oakwood. Injuries to three central midfield players over the last few weeks - Dan Rose, Kyle Bentwood and Simon Davies - have meant this area of the team has been stretched the last few weeks. All three are in line to return this weekend. Joe Botchin to continue in goal after his debut clean sheet. Jake Norton and Zack Collins are away.
Dovi Fehler (away), Alex Rosenthal (unavailable) are unavailable for Hendon, while Dudi Edreyi faces a late fitness test. Goalkeeper Russ Corin returns after a spell on the sidelines nursing a back injury. Hendon have a “ some great talent available this weekend”, with Larry Cohen and Ben Lauffer back in the squad, as is Zac Lewis who returns after missing the Lions game last week.

The big games are coming thick and fast for Real Hendon who will be looking to build on their terrific victory over joint-leaders Catford & Bromley when they travel to FC Team.
Motty Korman gave a midfield masterclass while player-manager Martin Smulovitch led by example with an imperious performance in a game where Gav Noe marked his return to action with both goals.
The will go to Borehamwood with no fear and Rafi Addlestone told JC Sport: “We have a good squad out this week, with on fire returning striker Gav Noe back after his stormer last week.
“We're starting to build a strong core through the team, with keeper Raffy Zysblat continuing to impress, Doron Shooter and Martin Smulovitch solid at the back and the Goldberg twins powering through the middle.
“We're looking for a big game this week from Lolu Hibbert, whose scoring boots haven't started firing yet this season.”
Mitch Young has been leading the way for FC Team in recent weeks. The player-manager is bang in form and is playing with a new lease of life. He hasn’t looked this sharp since his JFS days ;)
Team welcome back some key players, but they won’t quite be at full-strength for a game that could swing either way.
Goals are guaranteed on Sunday in a contest that should be a great advert for Maccabi football.

STRAW HAT PIRATES vs MILL HILL DONS
The in-form Dons will be looking to finish the weekend a point off top spot when they take on the Pirates for the first time in competitive football.
Three consecutive wins have lifted them into third position, with hot-shot Zach Cohen enjoying a real purple patch in front of goal.
Boss Brandon Hamme told JC Sport; "Another great performance last Sunday means confidence is now high heading into our game against Straw Hat Pirates this weekend.
"The last time we faced Straw Hat we won 13-1, so we know that are more than capable of picking up three points again this Sunday.
"However, that fixture was just a pre-season friendly and they have seemed to improved vastly since that game, so we know it won’t be anywhere as easy of a game as it was last time.
"They have picked up some decent results and are bound to give us a good game this time round. It’s incredibly important for us to keep this run going and with this Sunday’s game being one of our games in hand over Bayern and Catford, it’s extremely important for us to get a good result and keep the pressure on."
Ben Mandell registered twice in SHP's defeat against leaders Bayern Mincha last weekend. They were in the game for long spells and manager Elliot Cukier took away a number of positives.
He believes his players can ask questions of the Dons, but I think the visitors have more attacking options and will edge it.
JC team news: Joel Sinclair-Horne is set to return for the Dons after an injury to his toe has kept him out for the past four weeks. Goalkeeper Oliver Burchell is out after picking up a back injury during the warm up of last Sunday’s game. The Dons will have a better indication of his return next week. Sam Demby is also out of Sunday’s game after picking up a knock on his Achilles during last Sunday’s game.

PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND TWO
MACCABI MASTERS REP TEAM vs REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE C
Jon Yantin will wheel out the old boys for their super Sunday showdown against first division Redbridge C.
He has put together a strong squad, featuring players from Scrabble, HMH, Brady Maccabi, Chigwell Athletic and North London Raiders teams in the top tier of the Maccabi Masters League.
All these boys are familiar with the big 4G surface at the Hive – home of Barnet FC – and it wouldn’t surprise me if new Bees boss Mark McGhee is hiding somewhere in the bushes talent-spotting for his ailing team.
They could do with a tenacious tackler of the calibre of Graeme Grossman, Nicky Skone or James Temple, or a baller like James Kaye, who could pass the ball through the eye of a needle.
They have good options down the left too with Andrew Wolfin and Richard Slater offering excellent delivery for the little and large partnership of Mark Wagman and Lloyd Becker.
Ahead of kick-off, player-manager Yantin told JC Sport: “The Masters hope to take advantage of a combined 854 years of Maccabi football experience and pass their way around Redbridge C
“With our youngest player 36 and our oldest 46 - we certainly won’t be chasing them!”
Redbridge came up a brick wall of resistance against Raiders B last weekend. Other than their goal – which came direct from a corner – they struggled to get through a well-drilled defence, and Sunday could be a case of déjà vu.
The east Londoners may feel this is a good draw but they will do well to progress.

BRADY MACCABI vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C
Brady go into Sunday's meeting with Raiders C in buoyant mood after returning to the top of the Premier with a hard-fought win over Lions.
Top-scorer Reiss Mogilner added two more goals to his tally and he will fancy his chances of adding more against a Division Two defence.
Manager Joel Nathan gave Marc Rister and Stanley Offord glowing reviews and he'll be hoping every players turn up with the right attitude again on Sunday.
Nathan told JC Sport: "Following on from last week’s win we now face NLR C in the Morrison Trophy which we are determined to make a mark in this season
"We go into the game in great confidence and although we are forced into a couple of changes due to a couple of boys being away, we will have a strong squad out as we will not under-estimate what NLR C will bring to the table and make sure we are not part of a cup upset."
Raiders impressed in their last outing against Catford, but manager Sam Rose knows the odds are stacked against his men on Sunday, especially away from home.
They have looked sharp in their last couple of games, scoring eight goals, but they will find chances at a premium on Sunday.
“This is a nothing to lose game for us," Rose told JC Sport. "We’ve a chance to put on a good performance against one of the strongest teams in the MGBSFL and do the club proud.
"Whilst the cup is a great distraction from the league, whatever the result, it won’t detract from the important corner we turned in our season last time out against Catford.”
In Adam Levenson and Jonny Blain, NLR have two experienced players who can help the younger prepare for the test that is to follow. It's important the visitors don't show Brady too much respect, but when all is said and done, I'm expecting the hosts' quality to shine through on the day.

Raiders hope to welcome Rob Samuelson back from a long-term metatarsal injury this weekend and they will be keeping much of the same line-up that beat Catford last time out.

CAMDEN PARK vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS WHITE
Camden Park battled until the bitter end against Oakwood last week. They huffed and puffed in the first half but ultimately fitness and a lack of firepower saw them beaten by a superior team.
There is a danger it will be a case of more of the same against a young Lions team looking to bounce back from the defeat against Brady.
Camden played well in patches, soaking up pressure by putting numbers behind the ball. But they will need to be a little more adventurous or else it could be a long 90 minutes. And boss Stirling Kay knows it.
He told JC Sport: "A lot of people who have watched this young Lions team this year have been very impressed with them, stating their performances have been very much better than their results.
"So we know we will have our hands full in trying to get through to the next round.
"We are playing with a lot of believe in ourselves as a group, however it’s getting harder and harder with all the injuries we are picking up and players not being able to commit to playing on a regular basis, and this week is as bad as it comes.
"However, we will do everything in our power as a group to overcome this and hopefully dig deep with the players that we have and win this game."
Lions welcome back two players from their Saturday first team, which speaks volumes for the resources James Gershfield has available to him in a competition he desperately wants to do well in.
I don't see Camden causing Lions any problems, and I am going to back Gershfield's men to win well and win big.

CATFORD & BROMLEY vs HMH OLD BOYS
Jeff Gotch needs a little help from his friends right now, following back-to-back defeats.
Ahead of the visit of HMH Old Boys, Gotch has made a top-drawer addition, brining in midfield general Sam Reeves.
Reeves has played for several big Jewish clubs, helping Oakwood win the Premier Division under Jamie Cole and also representing Faithfold.
Speaking to JC Sport, Gotch said: "We have made the very exciting signing this week of Sam Reeves who has been playing Saturday football. I've known sam for 20 years and he will massively push us on in our quest for the titles this season. He comes straight into the squad for Sunday."
Gotch goes into unknown terrority, admitting he knows little about Sunday's opponents. "It's been a bad couple of weeks for us, losing two in a row," he said. "We realise that we have to turn up with the right attitude or we will get turned over.
"This week we are playing the Old Boys. Well after receiving a call from their manager we now know they are in fact young boys!
"They are a team of university students who have played together for a number of years and are all flying in from various countries for the game - well we will not be rolling out the red carpet and they can expect a backlash."
HMH team are always well turned out and well organised. Being a team of students, there's a chance they might turn up with a swagger, or dare I say a little worse for wear. But I believe they will be looking to make a statement and grab the backpage headlines of next week's JC as the youngest team in the hat for the next round.
HMH manager Avi Goldberg told JC Sport: "Old boys now means mainly uni students, so we are playing our first competitive match this season with lads coming in from Edinburgh , Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol.
"As a result , unfortunately I will need to assess their fitness and sobriety live on Sunday morning!
"We have lost a few of the lads who have gone overseas. One positive is the chairman has sanctioned the use of the corporate jet (aka Easyjet) to bring back Tom Prais from his year off in Germany but no such luck with Feldman who is in Spain!
"We don’t know Catford so anything can happen ... but we're privileged to have made it to the (Jewish) FA cup proper in the circumstances!"
It's definitely one to watch.

FAIRLOP FC vs HERTSWOOD VALE
Fairlop were left reeling following a League Management Committee decision earlier this week that saw them docked four points for fielding ineligible players.
One of those games was the 2-1 win over Hertswood Vale, and the points deduction has left them down in seventh place in Division Two.
But manager Aaron Dias won't let his players feel sorry for themselves. He will park the punishment for the next 90 minutes as they look to bounce back from the 8-1 humbling at the hands of Hendon United in the Cyril Anekstein Cup.
Hertswood joint-manager Jacob Emanuel admitted to having problems raising a decent team and told me he "wouldn't lose sleep" if they exited the competition.
"Unfortunately this week's game has come at a bad time in the diary," Emanuel told JC Sport. "We have a number of players unavailable through injury and other commitments (the idea of a trip to Essex for a cup game isn't too attractive) and unfortunately are struggling to raise 11 players at present."
Five consecutive league defeats means a cup game would normally be a nice distraction. Just not this week.
Emanuel continued: "Hopefully everything works out and we'll make the long trip to Essex!
"We all know what Fairlop are capable of on their day so we'll have to bring out A-game and stop them from playing if we want to make it into the next round.
"Our main focus is on the league and climbing up the table but I wouldn't say no to a cup run...similarly, I won't lose any sleep over this one."
There is only one outcome here.

MACCABI LONDON LIONS BLUE vs BAYERN MINCHA
Division Two leaders Bayern Mincha are flying at they have nothing to lose when they make the trip to Rowley Lane to take on Premier Division Lions Blue.
I've heard rumours that Lions are planning to make an ambitious move to sign Bayern goal machine Adam Ellis but managers Daniel Holder and Alon Pinhas have a 'hands-off' statement ready to roll. Ellis has turned into one of the most feared marksmen in the league and it will be interesting to see how he handles a top-flight backline.
No doubt Bayern will be well supported for their visit to the home of Jewish football. They are playing with confidence and freedom and the longer they can stay in the game, the more they believe they could produce one of the upsets of the season.
The Lions were beaten 5-3 by Hendon last weekend. Josh Bloom fired another two goals and having caused one or two shocks themselves in recent seasons, manager Sam Marchant will remind his players to avoid complacency.
The battle between Nick Barnett and Ellis will be worth the admission fee alone in one of the top games of the weekend.

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B vs LOS BLANCOS
Los Blancos go in search of a cup double when they travel to Wembley in a game I expect to be a darn sight better than the midweek friendly against Brazil.
Joel Salomon missed the horror show against Faithfold last week. A brace from Simon Moses was about the only real positive for the Blancos boys who will be determined to get their season back on track.
Raiders have "been decimated by absences this week" and I've heard whispers managers Jonny Adelman and Doron Salomon "may be lacing up our boots come Sunday morning!"
Adelman told JC Sport: Thankfully it looks like most of those missing will be back for the Faithfold game on Sunday week which is shaping up to be the Division One game of the season so far."
L'Orange did just enough to beat Redbridge last week and they will be keen to give former goalkeeper Jake Doffman, who now plays at the back for Blancos, a testing morning.
I believe Raiders will be bang up for revenge following their 3-2 defeat in the Anekstein. And if they score early doors, it will be interesting to see just how Blancos react.

Redbridge have had time to reflect on the defeat against Lions Blue - their second of the season - and perhaps Jacobs is thinking of tinkering with his formation. Three at the back could work, with messus Berg and McCarthy bombing forward as attacking wing-backs.
Faithfold player-manager Avi Markiewicz joked about conspiracy theories after the draw was made - "Redbridge A again, that's the third time we've faced a Premier team in the cups this season. I think someone is rigging the draw."
I was mightily impressed by Faithfold's bouncebackability skills against Blancos last week. The 5-2 triumph made a real statement and if they can start the Redbridge game where they left off, then you just never know.
Ahead of kick-off, Markiewicz told JC Sport: "Unlike the Lions game, we will be bringing a good squad down and we really hope to be competitive but we are still waiting to see if David Leiwy will be fit which could make all the difference.
"We are fully aware that this time Redbridge will not under-estimate us and will be well up for the fight.
"We saw what happened in the reverse fixture between Hendon and Fairlop and we want to show that for us it wasn't a fluke one-off."
The gauntlet has been well and truly laid down and I'm sure there won't be an empty seat in the house.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B vs FAITHFOLD B
Flash and grab. Flash, bang, wallop. There's a couple of headlines I'm predicting as first division Redbridge B tackle Faithfold B of Division Two.
Where would Redbridge be without Dan Gordon. He hasn't paid me to say that. I'm just putting it out there!
Gordon was the main reason Oakwood didn't win last week. The minute he walked on that pitch he was in one of those moods and said 'we're not going to lose this morning. I'm going to make a real difference'. And he did.
Flash was a real fox in the box, made a nuisance of himself and did what he does best - applying three clinical finishes in a 3-3 draw.
Now he is setting his sights on one of his former clubs, Faithfold B. When we were both there, he rarely got the service he so thrives off, but now with better players around him, he's showing there's plenty of life in the old dog. And he must be rubbing his hands ahead of Sunday's reunion.
But in Josh Barnett, Faithfold have a top defender who will be looking to make things tough for Gordon. And it wouldn't surprise me if gaffer Garson instructs his star defender to man-mark him, the minute he sets foot out of his car!
Yes Faithfold have picked up a couple of wins but they can be very hit and miss.
If Redbridge play to their potential they will run out comfortable winners.
