Ellis comes back to haunt Stein

Daniel Holder saluted his Bayern Mincha players after Adam Ellis came back to haunt Oakwood with another master-class to put the Division Two new boys into round three.

Holder, who co-manages the Bayern team with Alon Pinhas, was quick to praise "all 14 players in the squad" after a terrific performance that resulted in a deserved cup upset.

"We were really up against it with so many big players missing and vice-captain Sam Leader pulled out in addition before kick-off as he fell ill," Holder told JC Sport.

Nevertheless, Bayern pulled off a tactical masterclass as they packed the midfield and picked Oakwood off on the counter to perfection with clinical finishing.

Bayern went 1-0 up after just three minutes after some quick thinking from winger Nicholas Cooper who launched a long throw over the defender, which played in Ellis to slot in with a very composed finish.

It was 2-0 just moments later as skipper Jake Dayan played a defence-splitting pass which fell to Ellis again who passed it into the bottom right corner with ease. The Bayern boys really believed they could pull off an upset at this point and the home crowd at Nicholas Breakspear were silenced.

Oakwood hit back on 20 minutes directly from a corner via Daniel Seligman before a big defensive mix-up allowed Daniel Selwyn to draw the hosts level at half-time with a lovely strike with the outside of his left foot.

With the wind behind Bayern in the second half, they started to grow in momentum and limited Oakwood to few chances. On the 70th minute, a corner played in by Dayan fell to Ellis on the edge of the area - his shot hit the post before falling to Gavriel Nussbaum to put it into the empty net an get his first goal for the club.

Oakwood piled on the pressure with some late set-pieces but Bayern were determined the game wouldn’t go to extra-time so they could make it back in time to watch Spurs.

A late counter-attack saw Ellis beat his man and finesse his shot into the bottom right-hand corner to complete his hat-trick in style.

A delighted Holder told JC Sport: "Jason Stein has spent the last three years recovering his nightmares of the five goals Ellis put past his boys for Shacharit Donetsk. The extra three goals he banged in today won’t help the poor mans recovery!"

Oakwood boss Jason Stein told JC Sport: "It was such a frustrating game today which we lost in the first and last 10 minutes. When your 2-0 down after five minutes you really giving yourself so much to do.

"To our credit we quickly pulled it back, but when we were on top we failed to take all the chances we created. In the end we feel Mincha mugged us. They’ll undoubtedly sleep well on the flight home.

“Fair play to Bayern Mincha who took all their chances brilliantly. They’re a decent bunch of lads and in Adam Ellis they’ve got a once in a generation talent.

“We desperately need some of the injured players like Haydon Davidson and Dan Ash back ahead of Redbridge B next week.”
