CAC final preview: Hendon Utd player profiles

Having clinched the MGBSFL Premier Division title, by beating Oakwood, newly-crowned champions Hendon United Sports have that double feeling.

articlemain

RISSELL CORIN (Goalkeeper) - our Gianluigi Buffon. Part of the old guard and after so many brilliant seasons for Hendon and a full trophy cabinet, Russ has to be the best goalkeeper this league has ever seen. Also loves an Italian!

MORDY WEILER (Left-back) - his first full season for Hendon and what a great year for Mordy. Arrived as a squad player and has held down the left-back spot and made it his own. Defends brilliantly, has great energy and contributes with vital goals and assists.

ARI NEVIES (Right-back/Centre-back) - head in the clouds and as hard as nails, not a great combination for any opposition winger. A great defender, a physio, Doctor, osteopath; Ari has it all in his locker, apart from a five-yard pass.

DUDI EDREYI (Right-back/Left-back (anywhere but centre midfield) - arrived at Hendon this season and although it may have taken some time for his qualities to shine through, we quickly realised what the team had been missing ... an unpredictable entertainer! What a whirlwind of a season. Went from not turning up, to playing without a night’s sleep. A great character and talented player in his own right, but only as a full-back!

BEN LAUFFER (Centre-back/Centre-midfield) - if you thought Dudi would be hard to manage, Lauff puts him in a corner. Majestic experienced player, reads the game and calm in possession, still a class act aged 35. Off the field he loves to moan at the manager and needs to be convinced to play football on a weekly basis.

ALEX ROSENTHAL (Centre-back/Left-back) - Rosie has been part of Hendon for a long time and is still a brilliant player. Had a few injuries this year which has made it stop start but when he’s fit, he’s a great defender (not attacker!). Reads the game brilliantly and clears everything at the front post. Also been known to play mind tricks on opposing centre forwards so they can’t score.

LARRY COHEN (Centre-back) - every team needs an ex-professional player who has a modelling career, 10 girlfriends and has never done a hard day’s work. Lazza is THE MAN but sadly his season was cut short for Hendon due to his understandable love for women and late nights! The crowd will soon know if Larry turns up.

DANIEL HOWARD (Centre-back) - a former MSFL player of the season, a quality player and a pleasure to see just about fitting into a Hendon kit! Dan is unfortunately injured for the cup final and we wish him a speedy recovery.

JOSH BENTLEY (Centre-back/Left-back) - JB is another former league player of the season. Superb in the air and strong in the tackle, Josh has provided his experience and makes himself available to the team when we need him. Light-hearted and laid back nature off the pitch but a strong competitor with a mean streak when he gets out there. A great character tp have round the squad.

AVI KORMAN (Centre-back/Centre-midfield) - our all action hero. A tremendous player, an athlete, super hero tackles, wins headers, plays killer passes and scores great goals. Everything you would want from a footballer and despite a season with some injuries, Avi’s been a big contributor to the team’s success both on and off the field.  Avi is the future.

SIMON PETERMAN (Centre-back/Centre-midfield) - a frustrating season for Simon with a bad injury but he’s now back for the business end of the season and we’re delighted to have him. A quality, experienced player. Understands the game and a real competitor, loves a 50/50 or even a 30/70. You’ll know on a Monday if Simon managed to get near you on the pitch!

ARI LAST (Centre-midfield - Captain) - despite his best sprinting times being firmly behind him, Ari is the complete midfielder. Captain fantastic. Leads the team brilliantly on the pitch, sets the tone with his incredibly competitive nature. The guy is a born winner, anything less than 100 per cent is unacceptable. Hardly ever has a bad game and always performs on the big occasions.

ROCKY SPITZER (Centre-midfield) - Rockafella is an incredibly gifted player. Superb with both feet, great on the half-turn, hard to mark as he plays between the lines and is superb at playing the final pass. Great hair and we’re hoping his girlfriend and her mates have come to support the Reds today!

JOSH HARRIS (Centre-midfield/Centre forward) - Josh ‘the hair’ Harris looks tremendous in a Hendon kit, a real front-runner to be the leading man in our upcoming L’Oréal advert. Josh has a great work ethic and has played brilliantly this season either as a back to goal centre forward or an energiser bunny centre midfielder breaking up the play. First class at keeping the ball moving and playing the simple pass.

YOAV KESTENBAUM (Right forward) - Yo is an amazing talent. Could do with a month (or two) at Barry’s Bootcamp but when he has the ball, there’s nothing anyone can teach this guy. Glides past players, scores big goals and sets up chances with ease. A strong bet for a cup final goal. Despite winding up the opposition, has a great temperament and loves the big games.

ZAC LEWIS (Left forward/Centre forward) - technically out on his own in this league. A video collection of Zac’s goals would be outstanding at any level. Has brought consistency and hard work to his game this year and a nightmare to play against. Embarrasses the opposition teams at times with his level of ability and a standout contender for player of the season if he can turn it on in the cup final.

MOSES SEITLER (Right forward/Left forward) - Seits is a match-winner. Travels down from university to play for Hendon and if he says he’s available, he almost always guarantees Hendon a win. He’s a great character, an unbelievably fantastic player and undoubtedly the hardest player to mark in the league. Viva la Seits.

DOVI FEHLER (Centre forward/Right forward) - has a burst of speed that a greyhound would be proud of. Manages to keep his kippa on when running at 100mph and despite rumours to the contrary, he won’t stop if he is through on goal to go and pick it up! Dovi is a great character and seems to have his smile back under the new gaffer. There’s no one Hendon likes to see more on the scoresheet than Dovi Fehler.  A super guy and loves scoring a goal. Has the best celebration in the MGBSFL

YEHUDA KORMAN (Right forward) - an horrific injury has kept Yud out this season but he’s as much a squad player as anyone turning up every week. Has been patient in his recovery and if he’s not one of the best players in the league when he returns to the team next year, I’ll be incredibly surprised. Has been superb at assisting the manager from the sides, is the best in the warm up and a future Hendon superstar.

GREG CORIN (Player-manager) - trying to keep up with the younger stars of the team and still thinks he’s the best player in the squad. Greg has won the league in his first season as manager and has everything in his locker, both in the dugout and when he’s on the pitch (even if he says so himself!). Surely the most decorated player in the top Maccabi league winning endless trophies for 15 years in the Premier Division. Rumours are a victory today may see Greg bow out on a high....let's hope not. Either way he’s forever a part of Jewish football’s elite.
