HENDON UNITED SPORTS 3 CAMDEN PARK 2

A hard-fought 3-2 victory over Camden Park means that a win over Redbridge Jewish Care on Sunday would see them crowned league champions following Oakwood's defeat against Lions Blue.

Goals from Zac Lewis, Greg Corin and the ever-improving Mordy Weiler earned Hendon maximum points in a game where they were taken the distance.

Player-manager Greg Corin told JC Sport; “It was another big test for the team today; missing key players and playing against a Camden side who made the game very difficult."

Corin went on to say that he was surprised by Camden's tactics: "It’s a shame to say but we were disappointed by a number of their over-aggressive challenges and the general attitude we received. However, we showed our quality focusing on the football and got the all important three points.

Looking ahead to the run-in, he added: "We can’t wait for the forthcoming fixtures. We have very tough games remaining but the next three games - two  league and a cup final - is the chance for us to show that Hendon are the best team in Sunday Jewish football, and we will go out there and try to give it 100 per cent and see where that takes us."

He finished by giving “a special mention to the younger players in the squad today. They are the future for this club but when called upon today they were superb and we needed their energy to see off an experienced good Camden team."

Camden's goals came via the influential Johann Jordi and an own goal.

Manager Stirling Kay told JC Sport: "Hedon were holding on for the last 10 and were holding the ball up by the corner flag whenever they could, so credit to the boys for taking them the distance.

"In the previous match against them, we deserved to get points out of the game and are finishing the season strongly.

"It makes a big difference now that we can get 13 footballers out on the pitch, getting players back from injury and work and travel commitments. The spirit of Camden is back."
