Three cheers for Oakwood

Jason Stein is delighted his team rediscovered their ruthless streak after goals from Ben Feingold, his first of the season, Sam Modlin and a Daniel Seligman penalty sealed a comfortable win.

A very entertaining game at Nicholas Breakspear school in St Albans this morning saw Oakwood beat Scrabble 3-0.

Scrabble, who were still missing half a dozen regular players, did their best to halt their recent poor run but were always second best to a lively Oakwood side who are now just five points behind the league leaders and two points behind Raiders B with the same games played ahead of next week's crunch match.

Oakwood boss Jason Stein told JC Sport: “We played really well today and well deserved the win.

"At our best we can create numerous chances but today we put them away clinically.

“We needed it after weeks in which we were disapponted to only take one point from two games against Redbridge C and Raiders B.

“We are pleased to do the double over Scrabble who are historically a tough opponent.”

Scrabble manager Ray Abrahams told JC Sport: "We were second best today in the areas where it really mattered but Oakwood are a good side and deserved to win the game on the day. We lost the midfield  after their first goal went in.

"All three of their goals were fortunate though. The first one was a ricochet as we tried to clear the ball ... Adam Solomons in goal for us got a hand to their second but couldn't keep it out and their third a penalty which the referee has made a huge mistake with as he gave a handball when the ball clearly hit the player's side. On another day that would never have been given. At 2-0 you've still got a chance but that decision effectively killed off the game.

"The boys are disappointed but we looked a lot better today particularly in the second half  and had a few chances that we failed to take.

"At the moment we just can't even buy a goal let alone pick up points but we have to keep working hard and we will turn things around I'm confident of that."

Abrahams believes things will get slightly easier over the coming weeks. "We've now played the top three twice and it's in our hands now against the teams just below us to make sure that we pick up enough points off of them to to start pushing up the league," he said. "The last thing we want is to get drawn into a relegation battle.

"In fairness though, we just haven't been able to field the same players two games running due to the ridiculous number of injuries and we've already used nearly 40 players this season in the matches we've been involved in. But everyone in the squad has done us proud.

"We had two Scrabble legends playing for us today in Adam Solomons and Tony Gold. The atmosphere in the club is still great and there is a great camaraderie and determination to finish the season strongly in the league and to have a good Cup run in the Supplementary Cup which starts for us in two weeks time."
