Super-sub Jay gets Fortune off the mark (again)

Two goals from Jordan Jay and one from Gab Saul earned Temple Fortune B their first win of the season as they overcame Hertswood 3-1.

In a week that saw Boca Jewniors fold and Fortune's only league success subsequently scrubbed from the history book, Hertswood forged ahead via a freak own-goal but the Fortune players deserved credit for remaining calm and continuing to play their game.

Fortune's equaliser arrived 10 minutes before half-time and "it was a thing of beauty," according to joint-player-manager Darren Zitren. Adam Lenz won the ball on the half way line and used his physicality to hold off his man before flicking a deft backheel to Steven Black on the right wing. Black bombed forward before cutting inside and laying off a pass to Gab Saul who, from 25 yards out, set the ball on his left foot and unleashed an absolute rocket into the top right-hand corner. A phenomenal team goal and a stunning finish.

The second half was a tight affair but then super-sub Jay entered the field of play with 30 minutes remaining and scored with his first touch of the ball. Steven Black won the ball on the right and delivered a perfect cross for Jay to send a neat volley back across the keeper and into the corner of the net.

Fortune's third goal came right at the death. With Hertswood sending bodies forward, Fortune broke and found themselves bearing down on goal. After a fine cross into the area, Simon Cohen set the ball perfectly for Jay who thundered the ball into the roof of the net to ensure the 3 points were coming back down the A41.

A delighted Zitren told JC Sport: "This was the performance of our season so far. Make no mistake, there was a lot of pressure on us to deliver a result today and we duly delivered. For the second time this season, we are off and running and we couldn’t be prouder of our boys today.

"Our passion, patience, aggression and commitment won us the game today and the three points are fully deserved after a very tough few weeks.

"We have kept saying it and we will continue to say it; we have a very good team here and we need to make sure we continue with this form into our next two games against Mill Hill Dons and Faithfold.
