The Superhoops found a lot of joy in the first half down the wings with Ben Shirbini and David Leiwy being found by some excellent passing from stand-out performer in the first half, Louis Naghten. However, a mixture of good goalkeeping and lethargic finishing kept the score at 0-0.
After more good wing play Faithfold won a free-kick out wide, the set-play was whipped in and Naghten rose highest to power an excellent header into the back of the net.
Faithfold continued to improve and scored with a fantastic second. Avi Garson received the ball about 40 yards from goal, beat two men, turned in and curled the ball, with his weaker left, from just outside the area for his first of the season.
Just before half-time a rasping shot seemed destined to half the deficit but David Garson, the B-team manager and stand-in goalkeeper for the day made an excellent save to palm it over.
The introduction at halftime of Gav Lewis, Yossi Gordon and Zalmy Cohen brought renewed energy and flair. This gave Faithfold the impetus to step it up a level, playing some lovely football, keeping the ball for large periods and leaving Fortune chasing shadows.
Credit to Fortune who made it difficult to get into their box. Nevertheless, a quality through ball from Lewis broke the Fortune defence, Markiewicz wrongfooted the defender and lashed the ball past the despairing goalkeeper.
The Faithfold back-line had been superb all afternoon and looked on course to keep a clean sheet when after a small scramble the ball fall perfectly for the Fortune striker who blasted it goalwards at point-blank range only for Garson to pull out an incredible stop, with a strong hand and outstretched arm with cat-like reflexes he somehow managed to tip the ball over.
The hosts saved the best to last. Shifting the ball back and forth across the pitch with the whole team involved. After careful passing we sprung to life, Yossi Gordon found space down the left, he made his way forward and fed David Leiwy, David cut in and found Lewis, on the edge of the area, the 17-year-old shimmied inside and curled a beautiful shot into the far corner to seal the win.
Jubilant Faithfold boss Markiewicz told JC Sport: "I was pressing for more but remembered Caro's pre-game prediction and decided to settle on four!
Credit to ref Phil Peters who had an excellent game, was calm and in control, let play continue when appropriate but was strong when necessary.”
