Relive the launch of the Titanic, discover the best routes up Snowdon and find London's top views for £1

Rare new artefacts have joined the collections at Titanic Belfast’s galleries to mark the 106th anniversary of the ship’s launch.

Two original launch day tickets, a broken rivet from RMS Olympic and an 18 carat gold pocket watch belonging to Lord Pirrie, the chairman of Harland and Wolff, are all among the new additions.

And the story of 20-year-old Charlotte E Brennan is also helping to bring the occasion to life.

A secretary at Harland and Wolff, she attended the launch, and the shorthand notes she made about the ship on the back of her ticket will also be on display.

The six-floor Titanic Belfast, telling the story of the Titanic from her conception in the early 1900s through construction and launch to her famous maiden voyage, has been named the world’s leading tourist attraction.

A room with a view?

How much is a hotel room’s view worth? According to some of London’s top hotels, it could set you back up to £10,000 — or according to easyHotel, you could get a bargain version for £1 per night.

The budget hotel chain, whose rooms start from £19.99 per night, is trialling fake window views of iconic London landmarks for guests at its Old Street Hotel.

So for a pound, you could ‘upgrade’ to get Tower Bridge or Buckingham Palace rather than the everyday sights of east London. The views can be requested at reception.

The group’s other locations include Manchester, while there are confirmed openings coming up at Liverpool, Lisbon, Belfast and Barcelona.

The best way to explore Snowdon?

With more than 10 million people making the ascent to the top of Snowdon every year, the national park is one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions.

But many don’t realise that there are seven separate trails and hikes to take you to the summit of Wales’ highest peak.

Now Darwin Escapes, a holiday park operator with its headquarters in north Wales, has put together a guide showing the different routes including difficulty rating, route length and popularity, along with the best car park location to start from and how long you can expect the whole climb to take.

The routes can be downloaded from the website.
