  • Watch out for the JC’s #Passoverhacks on our website. They are video recipes of four of my favourite speedy matzah-based snacks. They’ll have you wishing it was Passover already. The first (online now) turns matzah into nachos (below) with home-made guacamole. You’ll wonder why you never thought of it before.

  • If your tastes run to sweeter things, look up Weiss Patisserie (www.weisspatisserie.com).  Based in Mill Hill, NW7, it’s a brand-new bakery untouched by chometz. Owner/baker, Yonatan Weiss has taken the opportunity to bake only for Pesach. “I’ve created a range of cakes that look like all-year round patisserie but is all kosher for Pesach and parev” he explains. Supervised by KLBD and Kedassia it could change your Pesach menu. He has no shopfront so check them out and order online and via the telephone on 0208 346 2263.
  • Save the date for Gefiltefest, which has recently turned over its ‘open for business’ sign — with tickets on sale on the JW3 website. New festival director, Emma Wolfin Golding has taken up the reins this year. She has a background in event management and a passion for food. Seven years living in Israel saw her fall in love with Israeli food “especially aubergines”. “Food for me has always been about sharing stories and connecting with people. That’s what I’m aiming to create at this year’s Gefiltefest.” On the agenda are fresh new cookery demos, get-your-hands-dirty workshops and food stories from all over the world.  (www.jw3.org.uk)
  • On Monday, I feasted my way around IFE 2017 — the UK’s biggest food trade show. A highlight was Seph and Joe’s gourmet popcorn. My favourite was their Marmite —salty, sweet and moreish. They have a date and walnut perfect for Sephardi Passover.
