What is it?
Ordinarily, not something I would dream of buying, it is a chunky, white and green plastic 'T'-shaped handle that you attach to one of three different sized round corer attachments.
What does it promise?
It claims to offer an easy way to remove the skin and core, and dissect the tropical fruit into pieces. As someone often too lazy to bother with fresh pineapples because of the lengthy knife work they entail, I was interested.
What does it do?
After removing your pineapple's leafy head-dress, choose the correct size of corer attachment and attach it to the handle. Then push and turn the handle downwards, like a corkscrew.
Does it work?
In a word. Yes! In minutes, I had a hollow pineapple skin and separate core. Genius. The fruit emerges as a satisfying long spiral, which you can then cut into wedges with the segmenter tool.
Must have or maybe not?
Pineapples are a mission, so if you also avoid them or buy expensive ready-prepared fruits, then make room for this one. I sound like an ad, but it really makes prep a doddle.
The down side is that a river of juice poured over my kitchen top, so do use it over a bowl or plastic tray.
