Let's Eat

Hamantaschen 101

With so many schools closed or closing early today, it's the perfect chance to get baking.

I cannot remember a Purim quite so cold and snowy. Did no one tell the weather maker that it's March, already?!

Every cloud has a silver lining, and these huge, grey, snow-filled clouds mean more time to bake up some triangular treats to celebrate the Chag.

Here are a few of JC Food's favourites:

1. Traditional  - Denise Phillips's recipe is filled with fuits and covered in every little girl's favourite - rainbow sprinkles.

2. Time savers - No time to make pastry? Puff pastry is the hero here. You can have Haman's ears in the oven in minutes - especially if you use ready-made fillings. As you have some time to play with, why not try Fabienne Viner-Luzzato's suggested recipes of salted caramel and chocolate; creme patissiere or spicy plum compote?

3. Cutest - These cute, decorated pastries will appeal to adults and children and keep the little hands occupied for hours!

If you cannot remember how to fold the pesky pastries, watch the JC tutorial here.

No excuses not to celebrate today to the max. Stay warm and Happy Purim!
