Reunion Resort

Kissimmee, Florida

articlemain

When going to Orlando en famille you could choose to squeeze into a hotel room close to Disney where space is at a premium. Or you could rent a spacious, high specification condo in a manicured village resort that offers peace and tranquillity after a hectic day at a theme park.

Reunion resort is such a place. More a golf village than a resort really, it comprises around 220 acres of villas, condos, private homes and a luxury hotel, spa with a of myriad treatments, 10 swimming pools dotted around, a water park and a tennis court.

All of this is contoured around three challenging golf courses each designed by either Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson or Arnold Palmer.

Mine was a luxuriously decorated three-bedroom (all en-suite) single floor condo overlooking a golf course in the Sandy Ridge Drive.

All three bedrooms are spacious with gorgeous linens and black out drapes, and each with a TV and DVD player with free wi fi throughout.

The kitchen has top notch appliances and a filter coffee maker but alas, no kettle for that quick cuppa.

The water park is great fun, with a DJ blaring out feel-good music, a pool-side snack bar with a large shaped pool with palm trees and ample sun beds. Kids love the lazy river and water slide while toddlers can splash around in the smaller pools and water slide while life guards look on.

Reunion is well-placed as a base to explore Orlando. The Highways and the theme parks are fairly near by: 10 minutes to Animal Kingdom, 15 minutes to other Disney Parks and 25 minutes to Universal.

There is a supermarket close by and at times when I didn't fancy venturing out I found the resort to be both entertaining and relaxing.

One tip: though there is a shuttle to get around the resort there is no transport elsewhere. So having a car is essential in Orlando.
