Yossi Benayoun has been installed as Maccabi Haifa's new captain.

Benayoun, who rejoined his former club on a two-year deal last month, will replace Yaniv Katan as skipper.

Former West Ham midfielder Katan is hanging up his boots at the age of 33 having been told he was surplus to requirements after Aleksandar Stanojevic took over as manager.

"I'm happy and excited to be here," said Benayoun. "Maccabi is my home and if we continue like this and remain united we will succeed."
