ACCOUNTANTS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SOUTH MANCHESTER SPORTS CLUB 2 SAINTS 1
Jody Marks believes South Manchester are still the team to beat in the Accountants League after they consolidated their position at the top of the Premier Division with a hard fought victory over Saints.
Played on a terrible pitch, Saints were determined to make life as difficult as possible for South after their mauling in the first game of the season and set up with 10 men behind the ball throughout the full 90 minutes.
After a patchy opening, South took the lead through a Jack Rowe deflected shot and had a couple of further chances before Saints shocked the leaders and pulled a goal back following some slack play in defence.
Adam Lavin restored South's advantage 10 minutes before the break with a trademark goal - ending a good passing move off with a neat finish.
Chances were few and far between in the second half as South ran out worthy winners.
South boss Jody Marks told JC Sport: "Last season we slipped up against Saints and we were determined not to let the same happen again. It wasn't pretty but am delighted with the three points.
"With two more injuries picked up, we are looking a little depleted as we enter the winter period, but as long as we maintain our fantastic 'true South' spirit, I believe we are still the team to beat to the title."
