ACCOUNTANTS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SOUTH MANCHESTER SPORTS CLUB 1st 3 IRAQ FC 2
South Manchester made it 10 games unbeaten with a hard fought win over Iraq FC in the Accountants League Premier.
After three weeks off over the festive period, this match was played in terrible conditions and was not one for the purist.
South went ahead after 30 seconds through Adam Lavin and quickly made it two through the evergreen Mike Filson.
After 20 minutes, South were forced into a change with the impressive Filson being replaced and it seemed to rock the away side. A series of comical errors at the back helped Iraq into the game and but for some poor finishing South were fortunate to go into the break leading.
South could not get going in the second half - with gale force winds against them - and they conceded with 15 minutes to go.
Playing against the bottom side, this was a game South could ill afford to throw away and they showed the title credentials, with Lavin scoring again in the dying few minutes to break Iraq hearts.
South Manchester manager Jody Marks told JC Sport: "It wasn't pretty, but our goal before the game was to secure three points which we did.
"We have a tricky few weeks ahead with a semi-final next week, tough league games and a Morrison game to look forward and it was a good run out for the lads after three weeks of drinking and eating."
