Ton-up Brand on song as Vale hammer Eastcote

articlemain

A fine all-round display from Adam Brand saw London Maccabi Vale 1st cruise to an eight-wicket win against Middlesex Premier League side Eastcote.

Tight bowling from Andrew Daniels and captain Jon Galloway helped LMV restrict an Eastcote team featuring two Saturday 1st XI players to 199-3. Brand chipped in with two wickets including a caught and bowled. Daniels returned to pick up a wicket with Jacob Holden and Alex Gold unlucky to finish wicketless.

LMV’s reply got off to a poor start as they lost Paul Durban with just 18 on the board. This brought Brand to the crease and he slowly built up a strong partnership with Daniel Cole. Both batsmen reached their half centuries quickly as Brand accelerated the scoring with a number of well-struck shots, including three sixes. He departed for 103 with the score on 197, just three short of victory, having shared one of the club’s highest second wicket partnerships of 179 with Cole in just 24 overs. Victory soon followed as Cole fittingly hit the winning runs as LMV ran out winners by eight wickets and with over seven overs to spare.

Belmont & Edgware 1st cruised to a six-wicket success over Winchmore Hill. Captain Richie Wienburg and Neil Myeroff grabbed three wickets apiece as BECC restricted their hosts to 58. Bronson Ritterman, Saul Weitzman and Richie Reggel were also among the wickets.

Four BECC batsmen returned to the pavilion with single figures scores with Richard Haring and David Ritterband steering BECC home.

MAL and Southgate maintained their 100 per cent records in the Barratts Maccabi Sunday League.

Mark Landau (74) and Anthony Wise (68 not out) steered MAL to 226-3 against Newlands & Northwood who fell 114 runs short of their target despite a half century from Darren Cohen. The reply started in disastrous fashion as they collapsed to 12-6 with Yoav Lebens and Yoni Fidler grabbing three wickets each. Southgate managed a last-ball victory on the main square at Shenley against Casual Nomads. Daniel Samson fell two run short of a half century as Nomads posted 160-8 with Richard Ferrer contributing 44. Rob Apple impressed with the ball with 3-24.

Ashley Smokler (58), Russell Wainbergas (25 not out) and Simon Taylor (31 not out) saw Southgate home with Taylor hitting the winning runs through point off Oscar Brodkin’s final delivery.

Belmont & Edgware 2nd beat Chigwell in the other league game.
