Every once in a while, you see a player who has a certain wow factor about him. At North London Raiders, there are Alex Olcot and Jamie Wolfson, while in recent times, striker Richard Salmon has taken FC Team to another level. Leeds Maccabi hotshot David Woolman has been scoring for fun this season, as has South Manchester goal-poacher Adam Lavin.
Now, there is a new name on the lips of supporters of North West Neasden. Indeed, it's a player I've been monitoring the progress of for quite a few years.
Ricky Engleman is the latest player to take a league by storm. The former Hillingdon Borough midfielder has been a real hit since joining the JC MSFL.
Neasden B boss Daniel Hodes describes him as "a real talent". On the road back to fitness from injury, he has also made an impression on London Lions manager Tony Gold and has scored three goals in six games in the Spartan South Midlands League.
● Maccabi League new boys Athletico Finchley had their wrists slapped after they were "found guilty of cheating" in a recent match against SPEC FC.
League chairman David Wolff said: "The team fielded an unregistered player who gave a false name after he was sent off. They also gave the name of a goal-scorer who didn't play."
The match finished 1-1 but SPEC FC have now been awarded the points.
Athletico chairman Zach Margolin said: "We're disappointed. It was a mistake as we thought it would be all right to play him, but his registration did not go through until the day after the game. Now that he's registered, he's ready to start scoring for Athletico."
Wolff also confirmed that the
JC MSFL will take part in a revamped London Inter-League Cup competition. Having run on a round-robin followed by final basis, a one-day tournament involving several leagues will take place on May 7.
● Tiger Woods beware. Leeds student Adam Ross came top of the leaderboard after winning the GSAL 5th International Golf Tour.
The Year 11 student was part of a 29-strong party which went to the Costa del Sol and played at some of the coast's best courses, including La Cala, Mijas and Alhaurin Golf Clubs.
Ross, who is 15 and plays at Moor Allerton, said: "I put my heart and soul into this tournament and under the most unlikely circumstances, I won."
● Team GB's preparations for next summer's JCC Games in New York are gathering momentum. Trials for the girls football and lacrosse teams will be held on Sunday with selectors running their eye over tennis hopefuls next weekend. The event for youngsters aged 13-16 as of July 31 next year will also see the GB delegation looking to take a dance team for the first time.
● I'm considering starting a new section in the hat-trick hero column after North London Raiders A keeper Dan Cohen was lobbed three times.
Standing at 6ft 3", Cohen's mind was clearly elsewhere after bumping into a gorgeous blonde when purchasing his pre-match milkshake. It all went downhill from there as Cohen, 18, was beaten from distance, including a stunning effort from the halfway line by Alex Levack.
