JC GOAL OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- DAVID DOMB (NL Raiders C) - GOAL 1 - A Papiss Cisse-esq goal vs Chelsea in the first half, reminiscent of his goal against Faithfold in the Invitational Cup last season

- ALEX SHERR (NL Raiders C) - GOAL 2 - scored directly from a corner. Pure class from the winger

- ROB SIMONS (L'Equipe) - on the counter, Max Martin teed up Simons who controlled the ball on his chest, 20 yards out to then hit a rocket with his weaker left foot into the top left-hand corner leaving the Oakwood keeper with no chance. Great composure and super strike

- AKIVA FINK (Bayern Mincha) - picked up the ball 35/40 yards out before taking a touch and unleashing an absolute rocket of an effort into the top corner

- BRAD WINE (Oakwood A) - a brilliant finish from the edge of the box into the top corner

--------------------

--------------------

JC SAVE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- BEN ROSENTHAL (Redbridge JC C) - brilliant penalty save against Faithfold A

- JOEL MACADAR (NL Raiders C) - think David De Gea, think again. With the scores at 4-3 Macadar kept Raiders ahead with a point-blank reflex save from a corner after some loose defending in the box. With Raiders going on to score their fifth straight after that it was a vital save at a vital time

- MARC GLUCKSMAN (L'Equipe) - a crucial penalty save - at full stretch to his left, palmed away

- BRAD GRANT (Redbridge JC) - fantastic stop with his finger-tips from a shot outside the box to keep his team in front

--------------------

--------------------

JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

- JONNY ADELMAN (NL Raiders B) - "It's probable that we wouldn't have scored if we'd played all day"

- MITCH YOUNG (FC Team) - "Special mention to my cousin Dylan young who scored his first-ever goal today and following on from Fortune manager pre-match comments stating Hecht was past it - well enough said!"

- AVI MARKIEWICZ (Faithfold A) - "Another game and another win plus my first clean sheet, what's not to be happy about!?"

- JACOB EMANUEL (Hertswood Vale) - "An absolutely huge shoutout to Andy Myerson who reffed the game today. Great decisions, kept up with play and excellent communication with both sets of players to keep the game flowing. Definitely deserves his nomination for referee of the week!"

- DAN KRISTALL (Oakwood A) - "The game was a great advert for the league and shows the strength of the teams in the division. I always say that as the number of overall teams are reducing, the Premier division is very competitive and games like this prove it"

- RAY ABRAHAMS (Scrabble FC) - "For 90 minutes, every player battled and fought for every ball and clearly we wanted this more than they did and we've now claimed some bragging rights after the manner in which some of our old boys left us for Raiders over the summer"

- JOSH HAMBLING (Redbridge JC B) - QUOTE 1 - "We all had a 10 out of 10s for the second 45 minutes of football, apart from Brad Grant who had a classic Sunday Jewish football moment of catching a ball only to let it drop out of his gloves into their players feet to concede our second. 9.5/10, sorry Brads!

- JOSH HAMBLING (Redbridge JC B) - QUOTE 2 - "Now for a Sunday roast and profiterole mountain to top off a brilliant weekend!"

YOUR WEEKEND REVIEW STARTS HERE:

PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND ONE

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A 6 MILL HILL DONS 2

Competition holders Raiders A saw off the challenge of second division Mill Hill Dons without too many problems, thanks to goals from Ben Joseph (2), Joe Cohen, Jonny Kay and a pair of own goals.

L'Orange stormed into an early 3-0 lead before the Dons battled back with goals from Zach Cohen and Ryan Kramer. But stepped up a gear to score three more times and confirm their place in round two.

NLR manager Dan Shafron told JC Sport: "I'm happy with the win but there's still plenty to improve on. We had some excellent spells where the football was a joy to watch and many positives to take forward in to our next game."

Dons boss Brandon Hamme told JC Sport: "It was a really hard-fought battle by the boys today, some unlucky goals cost us and I would say the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story."

MGBSFL PREMIER DIVISION

BRADY MACCABI 2 OAKWOOD A 3

Dan Kristall praised his team for an "unbelievable comeback" as defending champions Oakwood climbed into third in the table after edging a five-goal thriller against former leaders Brady.

Ben Kohler and Reiss Mogilner were the marksmen for Brady before Oakwood hit back with three second-half goals through Brad Wine, Alex Lee and Leor Sidle, with the winner 10 minutes from time at Rowley Lane.

Oaks joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "On another day, we may have lost this game but we go into another break from league action on a high, having really proven our mental resolve and once again we have shown Jewish football why we are the champions."

Disappointed Brady joint-manager Joel Nathan told JC Sport: "Oakwood are a very good team who showed their team spirit in the way they came back at us and we are disappointed but will learn from it especially as we had control of the game in the first half and just let them over run us in the second."

MACCABI LONDON LIONS BLUE 0 REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A 2

Redbridge A made it three league wins out of three thanks to goals from Scott Oldstein and Aaron Goldberg against Lions Blue at Rowley Lane.

Lions boss Sam Marchant told JC Sport: "Redbridge didn’t look too threatening and didn’t have clear chances but a terribly unlucky own goal and a slip at the back cost us the game."

OAKWOOD B 3 L’EQUIPE 3

Haydon Davidson (2) and Dan Seligman helped Oakwood B pick up their first point of the season but they were forced to share the points after a six-goal thriller against Division Two champions L'Equipe.

2-0 down with 20 minutes left, Rob Simmons started the comeback with a stunning 20-yarder, with a superb free-kick from Andy Smith and a strike from Max Martin earning them a share of the spoils.

Proud L'Equipe player-manager Nick Stern told JC Sport: "Oakwood's equaliser came at a time of dominance and was probably deserved. We left St Albans on a high, sensing an upturn in fortunes on the horizon."

Further strikes from James Law, Anthony Cope, Paul Biller and Richard Rosenthal completed the rout in a game where RJC ran in four second-half goals.

RJC joint-manager Josh Hambling told JC Sport: "It was an excellent display from the team today, easily our strongest performance of the season and I don’t even think we were anywhere near as good as I know we can be."

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE C 0 FAITHFOLD A 3

Faithfold player-manager Avi Markiewicz celebrated his first clean sheet in goal and told JC Sport: "We started the game off well and were totally dominant  moving the ball about nicely from front to back. We dictated the tempo, scored three first half goals and could have had more."

SCRABBLE FC 1 NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B 0

A solitary strike from Craig Edwards saw Scrabble FC condemn Raiders B to their first defeat of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Proud Scrabble manager Ray Abrahams told JC Sport: "For 90 minutes, every player battled and fought for every ball and clearly we wanted this more than they did and we've now claimed some bragging rights after the manner in which some of our old boys left us for Raiders over the summer."

NLR boss Jonny Adelman told JC Sport: "It was a poor and scrappy game settled by a poor scrappy late goal. We missed a bucket load of chances, had an effort punched off the line by a Scrabble defender but it's probable that we wouldn't have scored if we'd played all day."
