The bigger they come, the harder they fall. That’s the motto of Fairlop who go in search of their second major scalp when they battle it out with Lions Vets for a place in round four of the Jewish FA Cup.
Having knocked former winners Hendon United out in round one, the east Londoners travel to Rowley Lane with no fear, and nothing to lose.
They certainly have their tails up after putting 10 past Hertswood Vale last weekend. Dan Rosen fired his second hat-trick of the season and they have strung together four consecutive victories – and won them handsomely.
Fairlop chief Aaron Dias cannot wait for kick-off. Indeed I doubt he'll sleep much Saturday night. Ahead of the game, he told JC Sport: "We are going into another cup tie when Danny Caro and every other person associated to the MGBSFL are writing us off ... look what happened last time!
"Lions may have alot of ability and experience but what they won't have is anywhere near as much passion and team chemistry as we do. We've also got a few decent players of our own you know!"
The Lions came through a cup double-header well last weekend, showing great strength in depth. Boss Dan Jacobs has some tough selection calls to make as I imagine every player will want to be involved.
Some won the Jewish FA Cup in the MGBSFL, but it would be some achievement if they can go all the way. They are certainly capable, especially after eliminating league champions Oakwood A in the previous round.
Fitness won’t be an issue – thanks to the wonders of protein shakes – many of these boys were preparing for the Maccabiah 12 months ago, and they will be bang up for the challenge.
I’m hoping to pop down to the Lane to see if Fairlop are the real deal.

Sunday could be last-chance saloon for Redbridge A who are turning into the Arsenal of the MGBSFL.
The team had an overhaul last summer and there are striking similarities between what’s happened there and happening at the Emirates as we speak. All the talk has been about Sanchez and Ozil departing. Well Redbridge lost former player of the year Ryan Cole in the summer and last week Daniel Garfinkle joined him at Fairlop FC. I wonder what the agent fees were there!
All joking aside, Sunday is a must-win for the A’s. Simple as that. They remain outsiders for the Premier Division title after conceding eight times against Raiders last time out. The alarm bells are certainly ringing following a hat-trick of defeats.
Redbridge B, I hope, have been working hard to work off their Chanukah excess. They last played on December 3. We’ve had Christmas, snow and even a Manchester City defeat since then!
The B’s currently sit below the C’s in Division One, but boss Josh Hambling knows they have nothing to lose. Yes they probably concede too many goals but this is the cup and if they just go for it, you just never know.

MANCHESTER MACCABI 2nd vs BRADY MACCABI
Manchester go into the battle of the Maccabis on the back of a 3-3 draw in the league. Lying fourth in the Accountants League – with four wins and three defeats – Jonny Rose’s boys are ready to send Brady back the M6 with their tails between their legs. And recently-installed assistant-manager Stuart Delmonte adds a wealth of knowledge as a former winner of the Jewish FA Cup.
Brady go into the game on the back of a 3-2 defeat against Lions Blue. Reiss Mogilner boosted his Golden Boot chances with another goal, while Charlie Kasler registered his fifth of the season.
But manager Joel Nathan knows they can expect no favours from the hosts at Brooklands. He told JC Sport: “After our disappointment of last week, we have to show what we are made of as we still feel we can win something this season.
“However, we have been dealt bad hand this week with not only having Rob Cohen out for the season, but now losing two further players to long term injuries, and that with a number of boys who are unable to make the trip means we are not at full-strength.
“The PM cup is a very important trophy - we wouldn’t be a team that pulled out with excuses but will be ready for what Jonny Rose and his Manchester Maccabi team throw at us.”
The cup competitions are Brady’s most realistic hope of silverware following three league defeats. But their injury woes mean they will need to play out of their skins to reach round four.

MACCABI LONDON LIONS BLUE vs SEDGLEY PARK CELTIC
MJSL title hopefuls Sedgley Park have won seven on the spin. Saul Shapiro and Moses Seitler have been influential figures in their push for honours this season and I expect them to give it a good go at the Lane on Sunday.
The Lions huffed and puffed against Hendon United. At times they rode their luck, with goalkeeper James Harpin having another solid 90 minutes. But they were unable to breach a well-drilled defence and failed to score for the third time this season.
The Lions have played two of the top teams in recent weeks in Hendon and Oakwood and given a very good account of themselves.
If they take the chances the Lions will progress.

MACCABI MASTERS REP TEAM vs MANCHESTER MACCABI 1st
Cheshire & Manchester table-toppers Manchester Maccabi are expected to be too strong when they take on the Masters Rep Team in Hatfield on Sunday afternoon.
Scott McGarvey’s troops had an excellent first half of the season, with seven wins out of 10 matches. Averaging 2.8 goals a game, they boast an impressive defensive record, conceding just 12 times.
Michael Sacks is their Mr Reliable. The former Manchester United academy star has excelled on the Maccabiah stage, and he chips in with goals too.
Louie Basso has also won the Jewish FA Cup before and a talented midfield engine also features Sam Van Gelder, a player who regularly pops up with big goals on the big stage.
Masters boss Jon Yantin told JC Sport: “Sunday will be a great advert for continuing to play football as our average age is well over 40.
“I hope we use our brains more than we use our legs!”
Bottom line is I can’t see the Masters getting behind the Manchester defence to trouble the visitors.

LOS BLANCOS vs CAMDEN PARK
Sunday represents a golden opportunity for Los Blancos or Camden Park to join the big boys in the last four of the League Cup.
With a home draw against league champions Oakwood awaiting the winner, it will come down to which teams hold their nerve best.
First division Blancos are in the midst of a poor run. And the word is they are "struggling to put a team out".
That will be music to the ears of Camden boss Stirling Kay. He hasn't had too much to cheer about this season but I expect him to name a strong line-up - non of this tinkering nonsense that we've seen with teams in the FA Cup this week.
Kay is about as experienced as they come and he knows that league form will count for nothing come 10am on Sunday.
"We go into the new year a very positive attitude," he told JC Sport. "In our last game before Christmas, we played very well and was unlucky to lose to a 90th minute goal.
"We took a lot out of that game and we go into the Blancos game hopefully carrying on where we left off. We will be looking to go through to the next round.
"We are under no illusion Blancos will be looking to cause a upset and I’m sure will do everything to do this.
"We are hoping to field a strong side this and every week of the remainder of the season - the lads want to show everyone the real Camden and the spirit wit in the squad."
Camden fans haven't had much to cheer about but the feel-good-factor is with them and I believe their cup aspirations will stay alive.

NLR's upturn in form lasted exactly one game. From the high of smashing eight past Redbridge, they were hit for six by Oakwood last weekend. And another tough 90 minutes is on the cards at Rowley Lane on Sunday.
L'Orange are packed with midfielders and I expect them to pack the middle of the field and play counter-attacking football. Ben Joseph, Jonny Kay and Adam Joselyn can mix it with the best in the MGBSFL, and having beaten the Lions back in September, it's important they start playing like a unit, and tighten up at the back.
The Lions are only just one place above Raiders, but confidence is good after winning the derby against Brady last weekend.
Lions have won their last five home games in the league and I can see them having the edge here, with Ollie Craig looking to build on his excellence performance last week.

OAKWOOD B vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B
Things are going very smoothly for Raiders B right now. They have responded superbly since the defeat against leaders Faithfold, banging home 12 goals and two clean sheets in their last two games.
Handsome wins over Los Blancos and Scrabble have set them up nicely for Sunday's clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Oakwood B.
Raiders fans are relieved that striker David Dinkin is back to his best. It was a brave move when he dropped down from the A's, but if L'Orange finish in the top two no-one will be complaining. Dinkin is excellent with his back to goal. He has great vision and quick-thinking to play in his team-mates as well.
The NLR dug-out will be back to full-strength for what is a crunch clash, with Jonathan Adelman returning. Joint-manager Doron Salomon told JC Sport: "Firstly, it's great to have Jonny back this weekend in time for what will inevitably be a battle against Oakwood B.
"We've hit some good form but won't underestimate Jason's side and look forward to testing ourselves against some of their A-team players." Does he know something we don't? Only time will tell.
Oaks boss Jason Stein will be looking for a big reaction following last week's defeat at Redbridge C. Oakwood created a hatful of chances but were lacking a killer instinct in front of goal. So don't be surprised if we see a Leor Sidle or David Woolman come into the mix.
Speaking from the club's training ground during the week, Stein told JC Sport: "Come in to the office. Keep the lights off. I’m punishing myself after what happened in Essex last week. That’s right, close the door. Darkness.
"I've not stopped thinking about that game last week. I’ve watched the highlights over and over again. They don’t even fully do justice to how many chances we let slip.
"What happened to us in the last 20 minutes as Redbridge C (nee Woodford) turned it around was exactly what we deserved for such a pathetic lack of cutting edge in front of goal. We have got to do better. It’s just not enough."
Stein is confident his players can right those wrongs on Sunday. "Thankfully we have the chance to make amends in another big game this weekend," he continued.
"I love facing Raiders B. They’re a proper club. Games against Raiders B really get me going and Mr Adelman and I have had some amazing encounters over the years. And while we often tangle on the touchline, it’s all forgotten about post-match. They’re an enormous club, a great team and they are all good lads, except for David Dinkin and Elliot Espinoza!
"Since I took over at Oakwood B in 2014 we’ve faced Raiders B six times. It’s two wins each and two draws which show you how well matched the sides are historically.
"We had a great 2-2 draw against them last year when Mr Adelman and I really got heated on the touchline. Either way it’s always a fantastic, fantastic occasion. Hopefully it will be again.
"It’s a must-win side for both games. We’d both view ourselves as one of the top sides in the division."
It will be a different game on 3G. Both sets of players will be very much up for it, so it all boils down to which side takes their chances.
JC team news: The vast majority of the Oakwood squad who travelled to Essex, including central midfield combo James Frener and Ben Feingold, and attackers Rafi Bloom, Daniel Seligman, Daniel Selwyn and Dan Ash will be given a chance to make amends for last week. Ben Lewis will play his penultimate game in goal for the club before he leaves for Northern Ireland.

TEMPLE FORTUNE A vs FAITHFOLD A
Time is running out for Temple Fortune A. The odds are stacked against them ahead of the visit of league leaders Faithfold A. Indeed this fixture couldn't be coming at a worse time.
Faithfold start the match 18 points ahead of Fortune, and they have played three games less. The Superhoops beat Simon Linden's side 4-0 a fortnight ago, when Avi Garson, Avi Markiewicz, Louis Naghten and Gav Lewis eased them home.
Markiewicz's men have been scoring for fun all season. They have fired 38 goals in eight matches and have threats all across the park.
The team is packed with creativity and flair, and have a really refreshing approach.
Fortune, on the other hand, are in the mire. They haven't won at home all season and have tasted success just once in 11 league games. But you can be sure that any team managed by Simon Linden won't give up without a fight.
They were fantastic last year but are in desperate need of new talent, although I'm relieved to say they are not going down the Chelsea route of trying to find any tall striker to boost their hopes. That's just bizarre.
In terms of a prediction, Fortune will huff and puff, but Faithfold will pick them off on the counter with their pace and power. And my friend at Louis Mann has told me to stick a quid on Gav Lewis to score first!

BAYERN MINCHA vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C
Jake Dayan and Josh Levy ripped Raiders to shreds in the first meeting with Bayern this season and the Mincha boys will be looking to leave L'Orange doubled up on Sunday.
Bayern go into the game on the back of their biggest win of the season and joint-manager Alon Pinhas is looking for more of the same. He told JC Sport: "After two convincing wins on our return from the Christmas break, we are looking to add many more goals and wins to our tally.
"We are on good form and playing very neat football at the moment, so we are looking to take that into Sunday's game and come home with another convincing win.
"We know Raiders will be up for it so we will not be taking this game lightly. We enjoy our style of attacking football very much therefore Raiders should be alert of Ellis, Pinhas, Allon David and Sam Leader causing their defence problems."
Raiders have conceded five times in each of their last three games. So defensively at least, it's a case of back to the drawing board. A back to basics approach at the back isn't such a bad idea when you consider what they will be up against. It's in midfield that they need to win their individual and collective battles to stand a chance.
Bayern have been very good at home this season and I expect that pattern to continue on Sunday.
JC team news: Jake Dayan, Harry Salter, and Adam Biton remain sidelined for Bayern. However, Nicky Cooper and Joe Nyman are back in the squad, "so they'll be looking to give a strong performance".

FAITHFOLD B vs HERTSWOOD VALE
There are still plenty of seats available for Sunday's meeting between Faithfold B and Hertswood - two teams at the wrong end of the table.
I've heard rumours Faithfold asked Barnet FC if they can do away with the £1 car park scheme for the day, in a bid to boost the crowd, but the answer they got was that someone needs to pay for Graham Westley!
Hertswood were well beaten by Fairlop last weekend. That result is best forgotten about as it's important the players focus on the task at hand at what is ultimately a very winnable game.
Joint-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "I've personally been looking forward to this game since we played Faithfold in the reverse fixture - unfortunately, individual errors led to us losing 3-1 in what can only be described as our worst performance of the season.
"We're keen to make things right and get our season back on track with a vital three points following last weekend's pummeling to Fairlop.
"Unfortunately we're unable to name our strongest squad, and we've actually had to sign a couple of players at the last hour to ensure we weren't completely threadbare.
"Having said that, I'm confident that the squad we will put out will have more than enough quality to bring the three points back to Borehamwood."
Emanuel believes Hertswood are still looking upwards and he added: "The table is extremely close, with just six points separating us and Catford in fourth. As I've said to the boys this week, our next three games are likely to define how high up the table we finish this season.
"With games against Faithfold, Raiders and Straw Hat Pirates coming up, anything less than six points from a possible nine will be totally unacceptable.
"At this stage last season, we only had the one point, so there's definitely been progress. But we're keen to mirror last year's end-of-season form where we won five of our remaining eight games. If we can repeat that form, I've no doubt that 28 points will be enough for fourth place. Admittedly this is just a dream at this stage, but we're aiming high."
Faithfold have been worse at the Hive than Barnet this season, and that takes some doing! Alan Hansen would have a field day analysing their defensive errors. On the flipside, they score most weeks and the arrival of Jonny Blain (unless he's moved club again in the last week!) can only help them.
David Garson's men have lost all eight home games. Emanuel has set his team a target which is achievable if they play their cards right, starting with a win on Sunday.
JC team news: Gal Alkalay, Eden Dodi and Ben Davis head the large list of players unavailable, while Joni Hirschowitz serves the last of his three-match ban. Meanwhile, Bradley Lobetta, Dean Shannon and Marc Benarmaram all hopes to make their debuts for the Vale on Sunday. REAL HENDON vs MILL HILL DONS
I have a feeling the table-topping Dons are in for a very tough test when they travel to Real Hendon on Sunday.
Yes they haven't conceded for more than 270 minutes, but Real Hendon are on the up and have a habit of pulling out a big result when starting as the underdog.
Real have won three on the spin and have their tails up. Rafi Addlestone told JC Sport: "The Bees are up for this one, flying high on the back of a glorious three-win streak.
"We know it will be a tough day out - the Dons are young, fresh and aggressive. But we also know that their exuberance is matched with a snotty immaturity and a tendency for getting wound-up.
"We are confident that the collective and exhaustive experience of stalwarts Smulovitch, Goldberg, Gothold and Korman will be enough to give Mill Hill a proper contest."
The Dons had five different goal-scorers against Temple Fortune B but manager Brandon Hamme assures me complacency won't be an issue on Sunday. His players are ready to roll up their sleeves and dig deep against a tricky opponent.
"Last week’s impressive 5-0 win meant we are top at the halfway point," Hamme told JC Sport. "Not many would predicted we would be right up there challenging at the beginning of the season, but we have proven that we are serious title contenders so far.
"We are not getting ahead of ourselves, we know we got some tricky games coming up and we will need work hard to replicate the first half of our season.
"Real Hendon are our opponents on Sunday. They seem to be in great form in recent weeks after getting off to a bit of a slow start but they have picked up their form over recent weeks and got some impressive results.
"Real Hendon finished the place above us last season and we had two very tight games against them last year as well so we know it’s not going to be easy.
"However, we are coming into this game on the back of three straight clean sheets and seven consecutive wins in the league, so I feel like if we play at our best, there’s no reason why we can’t get a result come Sunday."
Fans are encouraged to arrived early for what will be a cracker.
JC team news: Joseph Reece is still out but apart from that the Dons have a clean bill of health.

STRAW HAT PIRATES vs FC TEAM
I've heard Mitch Young is on the look-out for a new striker, and he will like what he sees when he takes his FC Team side to Tempsford Green to tackle the Pirates.
Giant striker Richard Salmon returns from suspension, but I've heard rumours he might be left out of the squad with Chelsea sniffing around for a new target man. Losing Salmon now would be a major blow to FC Team's promotion hopes, so with that in mind, Young should be viewing the market. And I can tell him that the Pirates have two real gems in Ethan Mooney and Aron Gale.
Indeed Young has been banging away the goals regularly this season. But he can't do it all himself. Afterall, he's not a spring chicken any more!
Having won a nine-goal thriller against Raiders last Sunday, FC Team now have a run of games they must look to get nine points out of a possible 12 at the very least.
But they must really look no further than the next 90 minutes as the Pirates have quality throughout the side and the firepower to hurt anyone in the division.
The only problem is that they usually give their opponents a chance. And that why I think FC Team will get the job done one way or another.
