Miam Miam 0 South Manchester 1st 3
South Manchester Sports continued their strong start to the season beating last year's champions, Miam Miam in a convincing display.
Played on a good surface in balmy weather, the game got off to an unfortunate start when the opposing right back Phil Ramsey fell and dislocated his shoulder.
After a 10-minute delay, South got into their stride playing their passing game with the opposition always dangerous from set pieces. A flurry of chances came and went for the opposition before after 20 minutes the ball dropped to Tom Cantor 20 yards out who buried the ball into the Miam Miam net with a spectacular volley.
Chances came and went for South with Ben Peppi missing a good one just before half time.
Having led at the interval manager Darryl Lee knew that last seasons champion's would come out fighting and so it proved as they missed two glorious chances to equalise when scoring might have been easier. These misses were to prove costly.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, a crude challenge on Harvey Kaye resulted in a free kick. Toby Levy flighted it into the far post where Mike Stratton powered in a header to double the lead.
This seemed to deflate the opposition and it was no surprise when Adam Lavin, who had lead the line brilliantly all afternoon, got his reward with a far post header after a flowing eight-pass move.
South sit second on goal difference but the hard challenges keep coming with The Village FC, last year's league runners up, providing next weeks opponents at The Armitage Centre 11am KO.
