MACE 1 SOUTH MANCHESTER SPORTS CLUB 6
South Manchester registered their biggest win of the season after hitting Mace for six in the MAL.
Captain Mike Stratton got South off the mark with a looping header from a Mike Filson free-kick.
Filson then turned from provider to goal-scorer, rising about the crowd to nod home from an Ethan Krell corner.
A flowing South counter attack saw Krell, Levy and Feingold all involved before Adam Lavin slotted home to take South into the break with a three-goal cushion.
Mace did claw one back after half-time with a great strike, but it didn't take South long to get going again. David Flax scored his second in successive games, this one a beautiful free-kick from 25 yards leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.
Lavin made it five effortlessly rounding the keeper before Toby Levy put the final nail in the coffin with an usual finish - comparable to Yohan Gouffran's against Southampton this week.
Maccabiah veteran Mark Stewart said: "Everything seemed to click today, from front to back. Alex Davies in goal was superb throughout and made an excellent save to keep it at 3-1.
"The smart bet this weekend was having Michael Filson in your fantasy team. Defender turned midfielder grabbed a goal and an assist - that's nine points alone.
"We go into next week's Morrison clash full of confidence that we can cause a upset and go far in this competition that is full of history. People say it's just another game, but let's be honest - it's the Peter Morrison - it holds great significance to us all."
Meanwhile South 2nds got back to winning ways with a 4-1 demolition of Maccabi. Without manager Marc Magid, who was away scouting, Gary Stewart's boys put a difficult first half behind them and dominated the second half.
Gary said, "It's great to bounce back and there's nothing better than beating the noisy neighbours. We have some time now to regroup and then we'll go again."
