Selwyn wants Sunday best

Ian Selwyn is hoping his Leeds Maccabi 1st side can put on a show when they entertain basement boys Northern Star on Sunday.

The two teams play on the same home pitch at Gledhow Lane and Star’s manager is the chairman of the Leeds Sunday Alliance League.

Selwyn is expecting a feisty affair with all the characteristics of a derby likely to surface and is hoping his side can clinch their second league win of the season.

“It’s going to be a tough game because of the locality of it,” he said.

“We need a win because we’ve got a very tough month coming up ahead of us.

“Northern Star are bottom but if there’s one game they’ll want to win then this is it.

“Hopefully we can put on a good show and get the win we need.”

Selwyn will be without the suspended Elliot Jackson, who serves a one-game ban following his recent sending-off.

But Jackson will return for the clash with title chasing Waggon Athletic on October 30 as Maccabi’s season begins to heat up.

“We’ve got a lot of big games coming up with Waggon and then our Leeds District cup game against Cuedos Rangers.

“We’ve also got the Peter Morrison Trophy tie against Haroldeans on the horizon which should be a fantastic game.

“They’re flying at the moment and we’ve had them watched so we know what they’re all about.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to but we’ve got to concentrate on what comes before that.”
