Scotland go it alone

articlemain

Scotland is taking its own team to compete in the Maccabiah Games for the first time.

Until now, Scottish athletes had been selected as part of the Great Britain team but the delegation is looking forward to lighting up the opening ceremony in their kilts.

David Shenkin, head of Scottish delegation, said: "This is my seventh Maccabiah and over the years I have seen the number of participating countries grow, and my wish has always been for Scotland to be one of them.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for Scottish sportsmen to participate at the highest level of Jewish sport. The success of the Scottish competitors at the Olympics has lifted the country and in our own way we hope the Maccabiah will do the same."
