Israel's involvement in the singles competition at the Australian Open ended in round two as Shahar Peer was comfortably beaten in Melbourne.
Having breezed past Isabella Holland in straight sets in round one, Peer was outclassed by 14th seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany, losing 6-2 6-1.
There was also disappointment in the doubles competition where Olympic hopefuls Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich lost in straight sets against the top-seeded Bryan brothers.
There was better news for American Scott Lipsky. Together with Rajeev Ram, he reached round two after winning two tie-breaks against Spanish pairing Albert Montañés and Albert Ramos.
