Ronnie Palester, one of the stalwarts of Jewish cricket, is retiring after more than 40 years of playing and involvement in administration.

Palester, 70, founded Belmont Synagogue CC, where over the years he captained all four XIs. He is the current manager of Barnet Synagogue CC and also serves as President of Belmont & Edgware.

A former wicketkeeper-batsman, Palester of Barnet retired five years ago. His best performance saw him claim four catches and three stumpings in one match.

Palester has also been involved on the Middlesex Sunday League and the Harrow Cricket Association organised T20 and 6-a-side competition.

He said: "I feel like I've done everything I can for cricket generally, both Jewish and non-Jewish. Now it's time for other people to take over. I've lost interest.

"This season has been very tough and I can see a couple of clubs falling by the wayside next season."
