HERTSWOOD VALE
Competitions entered: MGBSFL Division One, Peter Morrison Trophy, Cyril Anekstein Cup
HopeS for the season: The boys are absolutely buzzing for our first season in Division One after winning the Division Two title last season. Our mid-season form dipped, which stopped us running away with the league, but four wins in our last four games ensured that we came away with our ultimate aim for the season. We know we’ll need that sort of form to ensure we have a solid chance in a very competitive league for the season ahead.
As it has been for our last 3 seasons, the aim is to be competitive, and we’re confident we have the squad to do that. One thing we’re sure about is that it’s going to be a very strong league. We’re up for the challenge.
Rivals: We know that Jewdinese and North London Galaxy are the favourites for the title, after just being pipped by Fairlop and Redbridge A last season, whilst North London Raiders and Maccabi London Red will also expect to be there or thereabouts, but we feel as though we’re in a strong position to upset a few teams and have a very solid season ourselves.
Players in: As we approach our first season in Division One, we’ve dipped into the market to make eight quality signings, beating off several clubs in the process.
- Justin Mullem
- Jack Green
- Daniel Reuben
- Jamie Steinberg
- Charlie Becker
- Jack Winton
- Jordan Grant
- Ben Brown
We’re not quite finished for the summer yet, with potentially another three signings still to announce, including a former Lions Vet, and a quality player from a divisional rival. Watch this space!
Players out: Sadly, as part of our rebuild for the season ahead, we’ve had to say goodbye to quite a few Vale legends who have played their part in our success over the past three seasons. We wish them all well and hopefully look forward to playing against them in the upcoming season.
- Joni Hirschowitz (PSJ, Undisclosed)
- Jonny Schogger (Retired)
- Ben Davis (Retired)
- Svi Freedman (Unattached during exams)
- Ben Chiltern (Whereabouts Unknown)
- Ollie Marshall (long-term injury)
- Elio Elia (PSJ, undisclosed)
- Ben Kaye (Temple Fortune, undisclosed)
- Jonny Kaye (Temple Fortune, undisclosed)
Ones to watch: Keeping last season’s title-winning squad together was one of our main focuses for the upcoming season. To name a few;
James Millet – runner-up in the Golden Boot last season with 20 goals in 20 games is one that all teams will be aware of , and in his new role as vice-captain, James is hungry to replicate last season’s form.
Adam Zaidman - the best goalkeeper in all three divisions. Runner-up in the Goalkeeper of the Year awards last season. His record at penalties and one-on-ones in second to none.
Ashley Hirschberger - Vale’s record appearance maker has signed on for his fourth consecutive year, as he approaches his 50th appearance in maroon and yellow. Another solid season ahead no doubt.
Our new additions are ready to set the world alight, with Charlie Becker and Jamie Steinberg amongst those set to give us some added quality and impetus in key areas of the park, whilst Jordan Grant and Jack Green’s experience of playing in the prem will be invaluable in the dressing room.
Too many quality players to mention.
Management set-up: Title winning duo Jacob Emanuel and Danny Hirschberger have renewed their rolling contracts for the upcoming season.
Vivian Emanuel continues his role as chairman, as does Jack Shulman in his role as player/Director of Football.
James Neidle will serve in his second season as captain, joined by MGBSFL Young Player of the Year runner up James Millet who takes his place as vice-captain
Home ground: East Barnet School, East Barnet
Kit colours: Home: maroon shirts, shorts and socks.
Away: Yellow shirts, maroon shorts and socks
Team sponsor: We thank Chopstix and Pizoyo for their continued support for the upcoming 2019/20 season. Ain’t many better places to eat!

Hopes for the season: To win as many games as possible in a season of transition at RJC this year. The youngest squad for some years at the club, built around Jon Jacobs' junior sides from 2002-2012.
Players in: The big money was used to bring former junior Maccabiah players Ross Weinrabe and Josh Joseph back to RJC after many years away in Saturday football. Delighted to have both back in Jewish football
Players out: In what is essentially a new Redbridge team, many have departed over the summer. We wish all the best of luck.

DIVISION TWO
BORUSSIA BARNET
Competitions entered: MGBSFL Division Two, Cyril Anekstein Cup, Peter Morrison Trophy, Barry Goldstein Trophy
Hope for the season: Promotion is the absolute minimum for us, we expect to win the division and have a good cup run on all three fronts.
Players in: As a new team we’ve got plenty of new additions, notable ones would be Jack Mattey from Galaxy, three boys from the Dons (Adam Bowman, Adam Freedman and Ethan Gold), Sam Lipton (Brady) and Michael Kenley (Lions). Joe Botchin - the best keeper in Jewish football – has signed from Oakwood in the top division. He’s played in cup finals and won man of the match several times. We believe he’s the best there is.
Ones to watch: Jack Mattey – his reputation speaks for itself, one of the most talented Jewish footballers, football is in his blood.
Our three strikers - Oron Sheldon, Michael Kenley and Ollie hart, all been on fire in pre-season and I expect us to score plenty of goals with our firepower. I would be surprised if we aren’t top scorers across all three divisions.
Scott Greenfield - a Jewish Paul Pogba, tall, technically incredible and really central to our play, everything goes through him.
Nathan Rosenthal - played against Galaxy in pre-season and made them look silly, won the game single-handedly.
Ben Bellman - at just 17, he’s scored three headers in three matches already and he’s the most technically gifted CB I’ve seen.
Joe Botchin - the best keeper in Jewish football, signed from Oakwood in the Prem Div, played in cup finals and won MOTM, he’s the best there is.
Management set-up: joint-managers and chairman Bradley Papier and Sam Sharer
Home ground: Bridgestone Arena, brand new 3G in Wembley- expect to be undefeated at home in the league
Kit colours: All light grey
Team sponsor: Bridgestone arena and the Jason Roberts foundation.
What will your team bring to the league this season? Plenty of attacking football with plenty of goals. We play two up front which may leave us shorter at the back but we would rather in 5-4 than 1-0. We will be disappointed if we don’t win the league as we fully expect to be promoted first season. We truly believe that on our day we can beat anyone, as shown by Galaxy match pre-season. The individual talent is as good as any team in MSFL, it’s just putting it together on the pitch and applying it with the right attitude as most of us haven’t played 11-a-side for a few years. We’re a team of very close friends which helps as our morale and camaraderie couldn’t be better. I fully expect one of our strikers to be top-scorer across all three divisions. We play great football and keep the ball on the floor, it’s tough in Sunday League but we play out from the back and don’t just hit long balls. We’re here to win every game, that’s always the goal - win the next game. As an end goal, anything less than promotion will be a failure on our part

NORTH WEST LONDON BEARS
Competitions entered: Division Two, Peter Morrison Trophy, Cyril Anekstein Trophy, David Wolff Cup,
Hope for the season: We have not achieved our goals unless we get promoted and reach a cup final
Players in: We have a large squad of boys aged between 18 to 21, so are mostly at university. James Harpin will be a key player for the Bears – having won goalkeeper of the Year across the MGBSFL in 2016/17. Some of the boys have featured in the MGBSFL before such as Alex Rose, Nathan Anders, Sam Martin and Freddy Kramer. There is also quality elsewhere from the likes of Zacki Doumou, Harry Russell and Sam Morris who have undoubted quality having played at a high level in recent years.
Players to watch: Sam Morris and Zacki Doumou – they scored 22 goals between them in five games during pre-season.
Management set-up: Joint-managers James Harpin and Sam Fresco. James will play every game and will be a key player, while Sam will play when required and can certainly do a job at centre-back.
Home ground: London Academy
Kit colours: Home – purple shirt, blacks shorts. Away – White shirt, black shorts
Team sponsor: Fresco Residential
What will your team bring to the league this season? A fast, attacking style of play that will bring the best out of the 11 on the pitch. Having scored 35 goals in six pre-season matches, they look to be ruthless and take a large share of their chances. The Bears will look to keep the ball at all times and implement a style of play that has been worked on in pre-season. They boys likes to call it Frepinball (using the joint-managers’ surnames).
