JC GOAL OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

JOEL RUSSELL (Fairlop FC) - turns up when he wants and scores when he wants. Fairlop might have been 5-0 down at the time, but Russell picked the ball up inside his own half, beat five men before curling a delightful effort into the top corner. It was of such quality that it gained applause from the opposition players and manager

DANNY VANDERMOLEN (Temple Fortune) – with the game on a knife-edge at 2-1, TFFC were looking for a bit of magic to kill the game and it came courtesy of one of the best team goals Steven Black has seen in years. Faithfold were peppering the Fortune box with crosses but Liam Stein managed to win a loose ball and set TFFC's front four off on a devastating counter-attack. Within a matter of seconds, TFFC had moved the ball up the pitch with four first-time passes, culminating in Benji Gourgey squaring the ball for Vandermolen for a tap-in. Jurgen Klopp would have been proud!

MOTTY HERZOG (Faithfold Green) - scored a great goal, took the ball on the chest with his back to goal just inside the box, turned and put it into the opposite corner – unstoppable

JOE SALOMON (MLFC Blue) - a worldie against Faithfold

ADAM ELLIS (HMH) - wonder strike against Borussia Barnet

SAM BOOKMAN (North West London Bears) - 25-yard volley that the goalkeeper didn't even see it was so powerful

NICK BARNETT (North London Galaxy) - yet another 30 yard humdinger. Top bins left the keeper no chance

LUKE LEWIS (North London Galaxy) - outside of the box finesse top corner. Hit the stanchion

JC SAVE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

ALEX DAVIES (HMH) - made a very important save at 2-0 against Borussia Barnet

JAMES HARPIN (North West London Bears) - got down low to tip an effort from Daniel Garfinkle around the post in the first half

ADAM ZAIDMAN (Hertswood Vale) - Adam’s definitely had busier mornings but his concentration in the big moments is what makes him the best keeper in our division. With the score at 2-1 early in the second half, Zaidman pulled off a diving save to stop a Zach Neiman free-kick from sneaking into the far corner. Different class again!

JC QUOTE OF THE WEEK: THE CONTENDERS

JAKE SANDERS (Fairlop FC) - "Some of the defending today made Tottenham's against Bayern Munich look good!"

JORDAN SAPLER (Hendon United Sports) - "We haven’t been tested at all in any game this season and I think it’s been fair to see we’ve been walking through games in the second gear. Today we came across the best team I’ve seen play in a Sunday League setting - they had a full set of coaching staff, physios and every player built like an absolute tank. We couldn’t compete with the skill, physicality and speed of their players but it was heartening to see that when it came to the basics of playing football we weren’t really far off"

AVI GOLDBERG (HMH) - "I expect Borussia on today’s first half form to be challenging for honours in Divison Two"

BRAD PAPIER (Borussia Barnet) - "Full credit to HMH as they’re a brilliant side, but we gave them a proper battle today"

YOUR WEEKEND REVIEW STARTS HERE:

LONDON FA SUNDAY CHALLENGE CUP ROUND TWO

KENNINGWELL UNITED 1st 8 HENDON UNITED SPORTS 0

Jordan Sapler described Kenningwell United as "the best team" he's seen at Sunday League level after the MGBSFL champions were put sword in south London.

"There’s some games where you just can’t compete with the opposition, today was one of those games. We started really well, moving the ball nicely and playing some good football without being effective in the final third. It was no surprise when I spoke to their management team who told of their aspiration to win the cup and that the entirety of their squad play at a very high Saturday level."

LONDON FA SUNDAY CHALLENGE TROPHY ROUND TWO

OAKWOOD 3 PHOENIX KNIGHTS FC 3 (Phoenix Knights won 5-4 on penalties)

Oakwood bowed out of the competition in the cruellest way after a six-goal thriller against Phoenix Knights before succumbing 5-4 on penalties.

Goals from Alex Lee, Dan Seligman and an own goal had put Oakwood 3-0 up with 30 minutes remaining, but Phoenix staged a superb recovery before holding their nerve in the shoot-out to progress.

THE WINCHMORE 6 FAIRLOP FC 1

A great strike from Joel Russell proved little more than consolation as Fairlop FC exited the LFA Sunday Challenge Trophy after being hit for six by The Winchmore.

Fairlop assistant-manager Jake Sanders told JC Sport: "Some of the defending today made Tottenham's against Bayern Munich look good!"

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND ONE

BORUSSIA BARNET 0 HMH 4

Adam Ellis scored his first competitive goal for HMH - and what a goal it was - as they comfortably saw off Borussia Barnet. George Goldberg, Josh Goldstein and super-sub Oscar Wagner added the gloss in a convincing victory.

HMH boss Avi Goldberg told JC Sport: “A potential banana skin was avoided as we romped home in the end. Most importantly another clean sheet. Borussia put up a spirited fight, particularly in first 30 minutes, but once we found our rhythm there was only going to be one winner."

A Borussia spokesman told JC Sport: "From our perspective , we felt really unlucky. At 0-0, we had a goal disallowed because of a very questionable overhead wire decision. We were the better team first half but as we had to chase the game due to an Adam Ellis wonder strike, the holes started to appear. Full credit to HMH as they’re a brilliant side but we gave them a proper battle today and I think they’ll agree 4-0 probably wasn’t a fair reflection of our performance."

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

MACCABI LONDON FC BLUE 7 FAITHFOLD DOCMM WHITE 2

Maccabi London FC Blue secured their first win of the season as they exacted revenge on Faithfold White with a 7-2 mauling at Rowley Lane.

Ben Kohler (2), Max Kyte (2), Benji Weinberger, Ben Schwarzman and a "worldie" from Joe Salomon accounted for the Maccabi goals.

Maccabi joint-player-manager Max Kyte told JC Sport: "We're very pleased with the result and how the boys approached the game. We were disappointed with the goals conceded and we know we can play better, but on the whole we were happy. On to next week and hopefully another win!”

Faithfold's goals came via Avi Garson and an own goal. Player-manager Avi Markiewicz told JC Sport: "Two Lions away games in a row and we were brought back down to earth by what seemed a completely different XI. We weren’t at the races today."

DC Prediction: Maccabi 1 Faithfold 2

North London Galaxy boosted their title hopes with a 13-0 demolition of Bayern Mincha, with doubles from Luke Lewis (2), Zac Rose (2), Nick Barnett (2) and Sammy Huberman (2) leading the way.

HERTSWOOD VALE 3 SPEC FC 2

A deadly double from James Millet plus one from Harry Graham earned Hertswood Vale maximum points in a five-goal thriller against SPEC.

Jamie Smaje and Zack Neiman were the marksmen for SPEC, but it was Vale smiling at full time.

Vale joint-manager Emanuel told JC Sport: "It’s never an easy game against SPEC, and once again Ricky’s team put us to the test in a tie that always brings goals. SPEC are definitely a team to watch this season."

SPEC player-manager Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: “Vale deserved the points today. We improved in the second half but despite going 1-0 up early, we were very poor and didn’t really get going until there was about 20 minutes left. Vale scored at critical moments in the game and we couldn’t recover.”

MILL HILL DONS 2 BROOK FARM ROVERS 2

Two goals from Zach Cohen earned Mill Hill Dons a share of the spoils against Brook Farm Rovers in St. Albans.

Rovers led at half-time via Alon Pinhas, but goals from Cohen after 76 and 80 minutes put the Dons ahead, only for Rovers to equalise 10 minutes from time through Philippe Auret.

A BPR spokesman told JC Sport: "It was a  solid performance away from home. We take the point, maintain our recent unbeaten run and look forward to next week."

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

HAMPSTEAD DUCKS 4 WEST HAMDILLAH 1

JONO GAON was the hat-trick hero as Hampstead Ducks moved into the top four after becoming the latest team to beat West Hamdillah. Sam Gottlieb added the other goal as the Ducks returned to winning ways.

As chairman Daniel Sonn looked on in the post match press conference, manager Josh Cohen told JC Sport: “Although we’re happy with the three points, it feels like a step backwards from the performances we’ve put in over the last few weeks. We need to pick up our game, and go back to doing the basics right, if we are going to have any chance of an upset against Oakwood in next week."

Jacob Kalms scored twice to send Temple Fortune to the top of the table as they overcame Faithfold Green 4-2 at Silver Jubilee Park.

Daniel Vandermolen and Simon Cohen also found the net as Fortune finished the weekend in top spot, above FC Team and Scrabble on goal difference.

TFFC's Steven Black told JC Sport: "This was a really important win for us, building on the results of the past two weeks. We are really beginning to put a run of form together and it’s pleasing to see the lift in confidence across the squad."

Jacob Richler-Kleiman and a stunning strike from Motty Herzog accounted for the Faithfold goals.
