MACCABI MASTERS FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
GLENTHORNE UNITED C 3 TEMPLE FORTUNE 3
Temple Fortune's stalwart striker Jeremy Fess marked his 500th appearance for the club with a goal in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Glenthorne.
Fess, who was also celebrating his 54th birthday, helped Fortune come from behind in an enthralling encounter.
Fortune old boy Howard Wallis put Glenthorne ahead with a header from a corner on 10 minutes. As Glenthorne pressed for more goals, Fortune managed to draw level after 20 minutes, with Swerner putting through his own goal following a corner.
Birthday boy Jeremy Fess then had a goal controversially disallowed for hand-ball before Glenthorne scored twice more, one through Swerner with a flicked near-post header.
Just before the break, James Ryan incredibly missed on the goalline after great touchline work by Robert Botkai, somehow spooning the ball high over the bar. But within a minute of the restart, Fess pulled one back when he bobbled in a shot after a couple of rebounds in the Glenthorne penalty area.
And parity was gained 10 minutes later after James Ryan was heavily impeded from behind in the area, leading to a penalty kick which Shick-Maier thumped home.
Phil Bloomberg and former Fortune midfielder Nigel Grunberg were booked for a spat as chances came and went for both teams, more so for Fortune who had enough chances to have won in the second half with several breakaways.
Fortune boss David Goldberg said: "Glenthorne had a stronger C team than normal and we did well to come back as we did. But as usual we gave away some sloppy goals through not marking. I say it every week but some people just do not listen.
"However, I was pleased with our second half performance and I think a draw was fair given their dominance in the first half."
