Tameside League Division Two
Old General 2
Manchester Maccabi 2
Louis Basso struck a second-half equaliser to earn Manchester Maccabi 1st a deserved point at Old General FC.
Basso’s 75th minute effort gave a slightly understrength Maccabi a share of the spoils against last year’s third division champions.
Trailing 1-0 at the interval following a defensive error, Martin Simons’ men roared back after the break with David Herman rounding off a wonderfully fluid Maccabi move.
The visitors continued to look threatening but were hit by a sucker punch when an unstoppable swerving effort flew past Maccabi keeper Josh Samberg.
But Basso soon had his team level, rifling an effort into the top corner to make it 2-2.
The home side were growing frustrated and were reduced to ten men after having a player sent off for verbally abusing the referee.
And that almost proved crucial as Maccabi made the most of their numerical advantage with Michael Green coming desperately close to winning a penalty late on.
But Maccabi were made to settle for a draw as they continued their unbeaten start to the season.
