Tameside League Division Two
Warwick FC 2
Manchester Maccabi 1st 2
Manchester Maccabi 1st came from behind to earn a hard-fought point at Warwick FC.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, Maccabi roared back after the interval thanks to an Adam Stevens penalty and an own-goal.
After last weekend’s 3-0 win at Gardeners Clayton, Maccabi had hoped to claim back-to-back victories in their opening two games of the season.
But against a physically stronger Warwick side, they struggled early on with Louis Basso missing Maccabi’s best opportunities of the first half.
Maccabi improved after the break and Stevens reduced the deficit from the penalty spot after he was brought down inside the area.
And minutes later Maccabi were level as a rare goalkeeping error resulted in the ball spinning into the Warwick net.
“It was a well deserved and hard fought draw against a team who are used to winning,” said manager Martin Simons.
“It was an excellent game to watch.”
