SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
BALDOCK TOWN 3 LONDON LIONS 3
In a tense first half, Baldock created what few chances there were and thought they had taken the lead after scoring from a rebound off the Lions crossbar, but the goal was ruled out.
Manager Andy Landesberg would have been pleased to go in level at the break, knowing his team had more gears to go up, but it was Baldock who raised their game after the interval.
Lions were immediately under pressure – Baldock again struck the crossbar and then missed a golden chance when a long ball outfoxed the Lions defence.
But they didn’t have to wait long, and the deadlock was broken just before the hour mark as Lions goalkeeper Ross Weinrabe couldn’t keep out the opener.
Lions tried to get a foothold in the game but Baldock restricted Lions to potshots from outside the penalty area as the visitors became visibly frustrated.
The second goal really killed off the match as Lions got in a tangle at the back and lost possession in a dangerous area – giving Baldock a simple chance to double their lead on 75 minutes.
The hosts rounded off a convincing win with a third late on. Lions will rely on others if they are to reel in Baldock for that second promotion place.
