Lee Park and Potters Bar added silverware to their trophy cabinets following two major competitions staged by the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs & Societies.

Liverpool-based Park won the main prize in the Provincial Trophy competition. The host club lifted the Gerry Tankel trophy for the best four out of six aggregate net scores. They finished on 287 with runners-up Bonnyton chasing them home with 290.

The Provincial Trophy featured competitors drawn from all the clubs and societies not eligible for the Metropolitan. Bonnyton’s Jeremy Goldberg won the Marshall Bellow Trophy for the best individual net with a score of 66.

Simon Irwin of Dunham Forest shot a fine score of 75 to capture the Mervyn Berg Trophy for the best individual gross score.

Then it was the turn of the next generation to compete in the National Juniors Competition at Dyrham Park. Open to junior boys and girls from all the member clubs, the event was played on a demanding course at Dyrham Park made harder by a strong wind. The standard of entrants gets stronger each year with many low handicap players and the results reflected the improving standards. Potters Bar member Thomas Law took The Abridge Trophy for the best gross score of 70. Coombe Hill’s Freddie Copestick won The Shirley Trophy for the best net of 66.

Dyrham Park won the Potters Bar Trophy for the runners-up in best four out of six scores gross aggregate. A total of 322 was far short of convincing winners, Potters Bar with a score of 303.
