Goals from top-scorer Max Kyte and Charlie Rubin kept London Lions on course for a strong finish following a hard-fought win at Evergreen.

Travelling the short distance to Watford against lower half Evergreen, the Lions faithful would have been hoping for an easy game.

But after just 14 minutes it was Evergreen who took the lead via a long free-kick. On a dry and bumpy pitch it was never going to be easy to play flowing football, but class showed as Austin Lipman rounded three Evergreen defenders and put in a great low ball across the box that Rubin stretched to meet and level the scores.

The game was scrappy with both sides struggling with the pitch and a strong wind but Ruben Rabstein had to be on his toes on more than one occasion.

After the break Charlie Kasler was unfortunate not to score, catching the Evergreen keeper flat-footed, but only to see his effort come off the post.

Lions took the lead on the hour when another cross from Lipman was laid off by Adam Arnold for Kyte to score with the simplest of chances.

Kyte was foiled by the keeper on two further occasions but Lions held on comfortably. They now a three-day break before the final two home games of the season this Tuesday against champions Standon & Puckeridge, followed by local rivals Belstone on Thursday.

Kyte bagged a brace in Lions' 2-2 draw against Bovindgon two days earlier.
