Klinging on

articlemain

Michael Klinger has been named captain of Australia’s Maccabiah team after missing out on the Ashes squad, writes Danny Caro.

The Sheffield Shield star, 28, was overlooked despite one of his best season’s with the bat for South Australia Redbacks. He finished as leading scorer with 1,203 runs, the most by an SA batsman in one season, and won State Player of the Year.

Klinger will captain Australia’s 13-man squad although his availability to play in Israel for the first time since 1997 depends on potential state or international commitments.

Adam Bacher looks set to feature in the Team South Africa squad. He led the side to gold in 2005.
