Top of the table Wycombe beat Lincoln City 3-1 at the weekend – and it was Jacobson who scored one of football’s most incredible hat-tricks!
But Welshman Jacobson, 32, had to wait an agonising 48 hours before his amazing set-piece treble was confirmed by the League’s Dubious Goals Panel.
Jacobson scored his first goal from a 20-yard free-kick that beat the defensive wall and flew into the net. His second came from a corner that was then thought to have been an own goal – but by Monday it was awarded to the delighted Wycombe man. Goal No. 3 was from another Jacobson corner that floated over the head of Lincoln keeper Josh Vickers and into the far corner of the net.
Despite not being sure at the time if he would be credited with the second goal, Jacobson said: “I don’t get many goals at all, so for me to have an opportunity to take that match ball home, I grabbed it.”
Jacobson, who also scored twice direct from corners last season added: “Some of my team-mates think after that I should consider retiring because they are not too happy just running in the box for no reason if I’m shooting and scoring the goals!”
